Part-time Computer Lab Assistant - Fairpark Family Learning Center

Job Description:

The Youth and Family Division is looking to hire a Part-time Computer Lab Assistant for our Fairpark Family Learning Center.

About the Position:

This position is located at the Fairpark Family Learning Center located at 1300 West 300 North in Salt Lake City. The Computer Lab Assistant will work 20 to 25 hours a week. The center is open from Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The work shift is Monday through Friday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Computer Lab Assistant will help individuals access resources necessary to meet their needs, pursue their interests and build upon their skills and talents by providing computer support, including accessing the internet, and support their digital education in an informal learning environment. This position will also assist with Fairpark Family Learning Center events and programming as needed.

Pay Rate: $18.00/hr.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides computer assistance to Youth and Family Computer Center users, including both youth and adults. 

  • Assists in teaching software courses.

  • Works directly with youth and adults in creating design-based technology projects.

  • Enforces the rules and regulations of the computer center.

  • Assists in maintenance duties and networking.

  • Works approximately 20 hours per week, including afternoons, evenings, and Saturdays, depending on departmental needs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required with demonstrated experience working with computers and multimedia applications

  • Demonstrated experience teaching and/or working with adults and youth in an informal learning environment.  Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from different social and ethnic backgrounds.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, tactfully, and courteously with strong interpersonal skills.

  • General knowledge of computer hardware and troubleshooting.

  • Ability to provide basic instructions necessary to help others learn.

Desired Qualification:

  • Ability to speak a second language.

Working Conditions:

  • Light physical effort.  Comfortable working conditions with intermittent sitting, standing and walking.  Intermittent exposure to moderate noise level.  No health or accident hazard inherent in the work performed.
