Developed by a coalition of San Diego civic leaders and educators, High Tech High opened in September 2000 as a small public charter school with plans to serve approximately 450 students. HTH has evolved into an integrated network of sixteen charter schools serving approximately 6,350 students in grades K-12 across four campuses. JOB SUMMARY The School Dean is responsible for student discipline, school safety, and providing support to both students and staff. The position requires general knowledge of restorative justice practices and positive behavior support. The School Dean supports the development of a positive school culture, the social-emotional development of students, and works with the School Director in all non-academic operational areas. This position reports directly to the School Director. Duties and Responsibilities:
● Implements HTH’s Student Code of Conduct, makes recommendations for suspension and expulsion, as appropriate (Explores and embraces alternatives to out-of-school suspensions)● Serves as primary “point person” for responding to discipline situations (consults with the director as needed)● Listens to student concerns and makes counseling referrals, as appropriate (helps students to reflect on behavior choices and turn “discipline situations” into learning moments)● Maintains data on discipline and student support● Develops and monitors Behavior Contracts with appropriate stakeholders● Conducts trainings (e.g. CPR & Mandated Reporter)● Facilitates drills (e.g. Evacuation, Lockdown, Fire & Earthquake)● Provides staff professional development (e.g. Conflict Resolution & Restorative Practices)● Monitors attendance for chronic absenteeism and meets with guardians, as appropriate● Serves as a point of contact for issues regarding Section 504/ADA, and disability discrimination generally● Performing related duties as assigned. The ideal candidate would possess the following competencies: ● Ability to nurture an inclusive school culture and community● Build positive relationships with students, colleagues, and families● Capable of navigating students issues from a constructive & restorative perspective● Can work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment● Ability to prioritize and multi-tasking against timelines● Team player and highly collaborative● Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills● Excellent communication and organizational skills● Models appropriate language, interactions, and responses to students, characterized by a deep respect for students and an understanding of their developmental needs EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE ● Bachelors’ degree required, preferably in an education related field● K-12 Teaching experience strongly preferred● Five plus years of experience in a school setting SALARY & BENEFITS Salary is commensurate with experience.
