Job Description:
Allina Health has a robust Mental Health and Addiction Clinical Service Line that offers the full continuum of care including integration, specialty outpatient clinics, addiction and co-occurring services, partial hospitalization and day treatment, and inpatient care. There are more than 290 mental health and addiction clinicians dedicated to the highest quality patient care across 45 primary care clinics, 6 integrated psychiatry locations, 4 hospital-based clinics, 12 partial and day treatment programs, 15 Allina and affiliated Emergency Departments, and 7 hospitals with 250 inpatient beds. The Mental Health and Addiction Clinical Service Line is led by both psychiatry and psychology clinical leadership, in partnership with operations to advance mental health care for patients across Allina Health.
Position Summary
- The System Medical Director of Emergency Psychiatric Services for the Mental Health and Addiction clinical service line is approximately 60% administrative and 40% clinical.
- The clinical location for this position is flexible within Allina Health’s service area, including Mercy, United and Abbott Northwestern Hospitals.
- This is a system wide role with Medical Directorship accountability for all Emergency Psychiatric services across all sites.
Major Position Accountabilities
- Medical Leadership
- Monitors activities related to the delivery of medical care and clinical services.
- Facilitates communication between physicians, site administration and employees.
- Manages oversight of department committees.
- Leads efforts to achieve quality goals, safety, and improve the quality of patient care and patient experience.
- Partners with organization leadership to coordinate various teams to execute on the department's policies and agendas.
- May guide other physicians in their patient treatment decisions.
- May participate in additional medical staff committees, and Allina Health committees and initiatives.
- May provide input into hiring and promotion decisions for unit staff.
- May provide education for physicians and staff regarding patient care for designated program.
- Direct Patient Care
- Reviews patient's medical history while collecting, prioritizing, and synthesizing comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or situation.
- Evaluates, interprets, and coordinates information to make decisions and recommendations regarding patient care.
- Provides education, consultation or intervention to patients (treatment plan) and their families.
- Works collaboratively with patients to improve their health and well-being.
- Practices in a thoughtful manner including consideration for cultural diversity, individual autonomy and legal responsibilities.
- Charts in electronic format in accordance with licensure and scope.
- Actively participates in multidisciplinary team approach to case management.
- May provide care in an ambulatory clinic, inpatient or outpatient hospital setting.
- May participate in on-call rotation.
- Quality
- Utilizes quality improvement tools to develop processes that promote continuous improvement in delivery of patient care, patient outcomes, or work flows.
- May participate in peer review and quality assurance.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
- 7+ years of demonstrated experience as a board certified Psychiatrist required; prior leadership experience preferred.
