Salary Range: $156,000 to $225,000
The Space Dynamics Laboratory (SDL) Strategic and Military Space Division is seeking an experienced Senior Scientist to help the U.S. Department of Defense Special Capabilities Office solve some challenging problems involving novel uses of the electromagnetic spectrum. SDL will be partnering with government and other industry colleagues to design a tailored application within narrow mission constraints. This is not a “room to grow” position. Only the most highly qualified applicants will be considered.
This position’s primary place of duty is in the Laser & Optics Research Center (LORC) at the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado and other facilities in Colorado Springs.

- Provides expert leadership to develop new methodologies for employment of supercontinuum optical devices and designs hardware to address a sensitive mission
- Ensures all subsystems integrate and that interfaces are clearly defined
- Ensures test and evaluation of subsystems accurately assess requirements and parameters defined in the system models
- Collaborates with USG stakeholders including other Program Offices to define specific system requirements and creates and maintains programmatic and technical documentation to ensure efficient planning and execution
- Designs blueprints and prototypes
- Coordinates across technical teams to ensure requirements are known and met
- Meets tight programmatic milestones
- Leads technical interchange meetings and reviews
- Effectively communicates technical results, both verbally and in writing
- Represents SDL at forums and meetings
