Basic Function
Working in a team environment, the Capital Projects Process Engineer is responsible for managing/developing and optimizing capital projects, implementing reliability best practices, as well as supporting plant activities as needed. The position interacts with other engineers, specialists, and technicians at the site, corporate technical networks, peers at other locations, and vendors/suppliers as needed to resolve problems, assist turnarounds, and improve plant reliability and performance.
Roles & Responsibilities
Responsibilities consist of, but are not limited to:
· Develop and support projects/programs which contribute to the profitability, reliability, environmental and safety integrity of chemical operating plants.
· Evaluate proposed operating unit projects processes scope to improve efficiency, reduce costs, improve product quality reduce risk.
· Evaluate alternate engineering solutions to improve existing plant operation or new future plants and offer a technically sound recommendation for the path forward.
· Support project evaluations and management of change packages providing technology input, PHA evaluations and endorsement.
· Provide process design support for capital projects including Process Design Package preparation during the phases of the project development FEL1 through FEL3.
· Manage the execution phase of the projects
· Work directly with vendors, contractors and project engineering as appropriate to develop scope of work packages and schedules for the service providers in line with the process design packages and phases of the projects.
· Develops and maintain specifications, philosophies and standards and pass these along to engineering and construction vendors to complete scope of work.
· Works with engineering, design and construction to make sure the project uses sound engineering and construction practices. Must be able to communicate detailed design issues effectively with suppliers, stakeholders, and other engineering disciplines
· Prepare, or assist in the preparation, of the cost estimates and schedules for process design accounts for equipment for bids and proposal work
· Preparation of the technical sections of inquiries and purchase orders, review bids and make recommendations leading to the selection of vendors
· Provides management with progress reports on a weekly basis on assigned projects.
· Execute assigned projects to meet the agreed upon budget and schedule.
· Work on internal processes consistent with corporate standards and policies, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
· Coach less experienced engineers, as well as provide technical training to others.
· Effectively communicate technical recommendations and achievements both verbally and written.
· Incorporate process safety, environmental soundness and reliable operations principles and standards in projects and tasks.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering required
Work Experience:
· 10 years relevant work experience with world-scale chemical and petrochemical process unit design and/or operations.
· Expertise in the areas of process engineering, manufacturing support or plant operations is preferred.
· Knowledge of the Phased/Gated project development environment is preferred
· Experience executing brownfield plant projects.
· The successful candidate must exhibit an understanding of business drivers, management of change requirements, reliability processes, and maintenance workflow.
· The successful candidate must have strong commitment to safety, a high level of personal integrity, and dedication to conducting business in an ethical way
Skills:
· Solid understanding of unit operations and process safety management systems.
· Candidates must have excellent leadership, ethics, teamwork, and communication skills with a results-oriented commitment.
· The ability to manage multiple and changing priorities is essential.
· This position requires negotiating skills and the ability to resolve conflict across departmental lines to achieve objectives.
· Ability to prepare and deliver complex technical reports and presentations
· Ability to summarize conclusions and impacts to be clearly understood for decision makers.
· Ability to prioritize work based on the overall value to the organization.
· Demonstrated expertise with AspenTech process simulation tools is a plus.
