Job Description

The Field Engineering Technologist (Mechanical/Civil Discipline) supports the safe and effective execution of our US Major Projects by coordinating field activities, verifying contractor performance, and maintaining accurate project documentation. The role serves as a key interface between the field, engineering, contractors, and project leadership, ensuring work is performed in accordance with approved plans, safety requirements, and project controls.

This position does not own project budgets, contracts, or final approval authority, but plays a critical role in verification, coordination, and escalation to enable timely and compliant delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Field & Construction Coordination
  • Support day to day field execution activities under direction of the Construction Manager
  • Coordinate contractor activities through Field Supervisors to align with approved schedules and work plans
  • Participate in site walkdowns, lead construction and progress meetings.
  • Verify actual field construction progress against drawings, specifications, and work packages
  • Identify execution risks and escalate issues proactively

Safety & Compliance

  • Actively support site safety programs and contractor safety compliance
  • Participate in hazard identification, job safety meetings, and field observations
  • Verify that contractors are working in accordance with approved safety plans, permits, and procedures
  • Model and reinforce safe work behaviors in the field
  • Immediately escalate unsafe conditions or non compliance
  • SOX control responsibilities may be part of this role, which are to be adhered to where applicable.

This role supports safety execution but does not replace contractor or Prime safety accountability

Project Controls & Documentation

  • Maintain accurate field documentation including:
    • Daily reports
    • Quantities and installed progress
    • Inspection and verification records
  • Support cost and schedule tracking by validating work completed
  • Assist with change identification and documentation
  • Support forecasting, reporting, and close out documentation as required

Contractor Interface & Verification

  • Interface directly with contractors to:
    • Clarify scope, drawings, and specifications
    • Verify progress and completion of work
    • Identify variances or non conformances
  • Track contractor performance against approved plans
  • Communicate observations, risks, and recommendations to project leadership

The role verifies and reports — it does not direct contractor means, methods, or commercial decisions.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Serve as a liaison between field operations, engineering, project controls, and management
  • Review and contribute feedback to progress reports and coordination meetings
  • Escalate issues clearly, factually, and in a timely manner

Qualifications

  • Diploma or degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, or related field
  • 6-8 years of experience supporting major construction projects
  • Strong understanding of construction field practices and safety requirements
  • Experience working with contractors and multi disciplinary teams
  • Strong documentation, communication, and organizational skills
  • Comfortable working in active field environments
