About You and this Role

Dow is seeking the next Rotating Equipment Specialist to support our Knoxville Maintenance Organization. In this role you play a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of the site's rotating equipment assets, including pumps, compressors, motors, turbines, and other critical mechanical systems. Leveraging technical expertise, EHS knowledge, and manufacturing experience, this role supports maintenance and operations teams, drives equipment reliability improvements, and enhances maintenance work processes. As a key technical resource and mentor, the Rotating Equipment Specialist helps develop site expertise while promoting a culture of safety, reliability, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as technical resource for the maintenance team.
  • Reviews and adjusts preventative maintenance activities to assure reliability of equipment.
  • Checks sizing of components and parts.
  • Specifies, requisitions, and supports the installation of parts and equipment.
  • Coordinates identification of critical spare parts.
  • Supports maintenance planning activities as needed.
  • Identifies and supports training of mechanics.
  • Oversees and is accountable for the quality of repairs and takes action to assure consistent high-quality results.
  • Supports repairs, maintenance and installation of equipment and machinery which is used in the process.
  • Troubleshoots and directs repairs of malfunctions and documents failure analysis.
  • Collects equipment operation and history data to facilitate reliability improvements.
  • Works within established Maintenance Work Processes and helps resolve issues that surface as a result of planning and scheduling work.
  • Interfaces with Maintenance and Reliability engineering to support maintenance and reliability improvement efforts.

Required Qualifications

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree or relevant military experience at or above a U.S. E5 or Canadian Petty Officer 2nd Class or Sergeant ranking. A degree in mechanical engineering is a plus.
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience maintaining rotating equipment. In lieu of a degree, 10 or more years of experience working directly with rotating equipment is accepted.
  • Willing and able to participate in maintenance support on call schedule (approximately one week per quarter).
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Physical Requirements

Able to meet the following physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Lift, push, carry and pull up to a maximum of 50 lbs.
  • Able to work in a laboratory environment which requires minimal supervision.
  • Adapt to the Rhythm of Shiftwork.
  • Work in and around tight spaces and large machinery.
  • Be able to repeatedly sit down and stand up from a chair at a workstation.
  • Walk and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Frequent bending and reaching.
  • Able to climb stairs / ladders.
  • Able to perform repetitive motion tasks.
  • Work in an area with hazardous materials.
  • Must be able to wear and use all personal protective equipment (PPE), including but not limited to safety glasses, fire retardant clothing, ear plugs, and/or acceptable safety shoes, including harnesses with a total weight capacity of 300lbs.

  • Rotating Equipment Expertise: Uses deep technical knowledge of pumps, compressors, turbines, motors, and related equipment to diagnose issues, optimize performance, and ensure safe, reliable operation across the site.
  • Reliability Improvement: Analyzes equipment performance, maintenance history, and failure data to identify opportunities that improve asset reliability and reduce downtime.
