The tax intern will be part of the Shake Shack Tax department and will work closely with the team to gain valuable tax skills and knowledge. The tax department is a collaborative department that works closely with various departments within the company, including accounting, IT, FP&A, legal, and business operations. We are seeking a college student for a Fall internship to start in September 2025. The position will be approximately 20 hours a week on a flexible schedule during the day. The internship will provide unique and exciting opportunities in the indirect tax world, while also offering visibility into the high-quality work performed at Shake Shack.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities:
Provide general administrative support to the team
Supporting the preparation and filing of all indirect tax returns, including sales and use tax, personal property tax, beer and liquor taxes, commercial rent tax, and gross receipts tax
Support the team with the Use tax review and analysis of purchases to ensure accurate treatment for use tax compliance
Assist with investigating and resolving tax notices received
Assist in researching, documenting, and maintaining the tax matrix of all tax filing regulations
Assist the team with state and local tax audits by gathering, organizing, and tracking information requested by auditors.
Assist with gathering support for documenting and maintaining Sarbanes-Oxley 404 compliance per internal controls
Prepare reports and analyses and contribute to additional projects as required
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
High School Diploma/Equivalent
Degree Field (s):
Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field
Work Experience:
0-2 years
Related Experience:
3rd or 4th year in the process of getting a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Finance, business, or related field
Strong command of Microsoft Excel
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Self-motivator and able to work independently with a willingness to learn
