Position Summary
Reporting to the Assistant Director of Youth & Competitive Programs, the Adult Hocky and Public Ice Coordinator is responsible for the University of Denver’s Adult Hockey League (DUAHL) and public ice programs for the University community and Ritchie Center members and guests. This includes oversight of the following responsibilities including, without limitation; adult hockey sales & registration ($350,000+), public ice program (stick & puck, drop-in hockey, public skate) sales and registration ($150,000+), program scheduling, marketing and program promotion, human resources, skate management, virtual offerings, officiating, special events, and related programs and operations.
The Adult Hockey and Public Ice Programs Coordinator is a team member within the University of Denver’s Division of Kennedy Mountain Campus, Wellness & Recreation and should always reflect the University of Denver and its Ice programs in a positive light.
Essential Functions
Program Design and Management
- Maximize Adult Hockey Leagues and Public Ice Programs within the scheduling matrix of the Daniel L Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness.
- Coordinate weekly days and times for leagues and public program schedules.
- Create and host a minimum of 15 public ice special events including but not limited to: Skate with Santa, Spooky Skate, Noon Years Eve, themed skates.
- Contribute to student engagement efforts in the Division by offering student only opportunities (Student Skate night, themed skates, etc)
- Ensure budget expectations and sales goals are met by evaluating price, number of offerings and labor utilization.
- Recruit and coordinate new participants to program offerings.
People Management and Human Resources
- Responsible for recruiting, hiring, training and scheduling hockey scorekeepers (3-5) and skate guards (3-5).
- Create and maintain adequate staffing levels to ensure safety and quality of programs, while managing labor resources. Schedule staff in SubItUp and ensure all shifts are covered.
- Conduct evaluations of staff performance quarterly using the department-approved evaluation templates and schedules.
- Manage all timecards for direct reporting staff.
- Provide on-site supervision during Adult Hockey Leagues.
Customer Service
- Be present during Adult Hockey leagues and resolve issues as they arise.
- Manage communication and customer service of DUAHL and Public Ice Programs.
- Assist customers with the registration process (online, phone, or in person).
- Responsible for the creation and execution of Public Ice Programs Newsletter.
Schedule
The Adult Hockey League and Public Ice Programs Coordinator will develop their weekly schedule with the Assistant Director of Youth & Competitive Programs. Any deviations from the approved schedule must be communicated to the Assistant Director of Youth & Competitive Programs and any additional hours approved prior to commencing. All work must be completed at the Daniel L. Ritchie Center for Sports and Wellness within its business hours unless otherwise approved. In general, a typical schedule would revolve around program times and be Tuesdays 3pm-9pm, Thursdays 3pm-9pm , Sundays, 12pm-10pm, totaling 20-25 hours per week.
