JOB TITLE: Landscaper/Groundskeeper

Zachry Group is looking for a Landscaper/Groundskeeper at our Corporate Headquarters located in San Antonio, TX. The successful incumbent will care for established grounds around the corporate office to include landscaping duties, trash removal, and light maintenance. Workers typically perform a variety of tasks, which may include any combination of the following: sod laying, mowing, trimming, planting, watering, fertilizing, digging, raking, sprinkler installation and maintenance, etc.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Care for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing and removing thatch, and trimming and edging around flower beds, walkways, and walls.
• Mix and spray or spread fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, and trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders.
• Mow and edge lawns, using power mowers and edgers.
• Plant seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, and shrubs, and apply mulch for protection, using gardening tools.
• Complete work orders as directed by supervisor.
• Safely operates equipment as assigned and trained to maintain the landscape surrounding enterprise property. Notifies Supervisor of equipment concerns and maintenance issues.
• Supports the Manager with irrigation and turf installation, removal and replacement.
• Provides support to other functions when necessary to ensure the property is ready for special events, holidays, etc.
• Responds to grounds emergencies.
• Occasional travel and weekend work at the Zachry owned and leased properties.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• One to three years of general landscape maintenance experience
• High school diploma or GED
• Must possess and maintain a valid US driver’s license / motor vehicle operating license 
• Ability to perform work in all types of weather conditions
• Ability to work in an environment where there is high exposure to dust, pollens, and other allergens
• Ability to climb and work on a stepladder up to 12 foot 
• Ability to withstand extensive standing, stooping, squatting, pushing and pulling
• Individual positions may require the ability to lift up to 100 pounds
• Professional communication with peers, management, and all visitors to the Zachry properties
• Reliable transportation and dependability

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Organic lawn and landscape knowledge
• Formal education or certification in landscape design, horticulture, or arboriculture
• Pond maintenance experience
• Indoor plant maintenance experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must be able to stand, walk, climb stairs, stoop, kneel or crouch for long periods of time; use hands to finger, handle, grasp or feel objects; reach with hands and arms; oral expression and comprehension; hear. Perform safe lifting/moving of materials greater than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including but not limited to: hardhat, safety glasses/goggles, ear plugs/muffs, masks/respirators, safety vests, gloves and steel-toe boots.
 

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot – cool/cold, wind and rain; high exposure to pollens and other outdoor allergens. Will work at different elevations. Noise levels will be moderate to high. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment and tools. People standing, walking, sitting, signaling and talking. Bells, whistles and alarms.
