About the role

Description

This fellowship (20 hours/week) is located in the Fox Center for Humanistic Inquiry and is intended to provide a graduate student in the humanities or humanistic social sciences a pathway into academic careers beyond the tenure track. The selected fellow will gain a broad range of professional experience by collaborating with our staff team, including in the areas of program management, event design, budget management, research and assessment, and communications. Students with a strong interest in alternative academic careers are especially encouraged to apply. The fellow will have a desk at the Center and is expected to work primarily in person. Occasional evening work (1-2 times per month) is expected as part of supporting the Center’s events program.

This fellowship provides a 9-month stipend along with a 100% subsidy for the Emory University Student Health Insurance Plan (EUSHIP). The first stipend payment will be at the end of September. The stipend will be $28,100 paid over 9-months. The fellow is expected to complete their degree during the year of the fellowship award.

Qualifications

To be considered for the fellowship, applicants must:

  • be full-time students currently enrolled in doctoral degree programs at Emory University's Laney Graduate School;
  • in good standing both in the Laney Graduate School and in their program;
  • be in candidacy at the time of application;
  • be in their 5th, 6th, or 7th year of graduate study at the time of application;
  • not have held an Emory completion fellowship previously.

  • a cover letter (no longer than 2 pages) outlining your interest in this fellowship and explaining how it aligns with your professional goals;
  • a timeline for completion of your dissertation (no more than 1 page);
  • email information for an Emory faculty member, preferably the dissertation director, who will be asked to submit a confidential letter of recommendation. Their letter should address your schedule for completing the dissertation and how this fellowship would advance your professional goals.
