EMPLOYMENT RELATIONSHIP: Just cause subject to probationary period

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direction, provides crisis intervention and de-escalation services in the home and community. Completes hospital face-to-face screenings to determine if child needs inpatient care. Maintains clinical and administrative records. Coordinates, consults, and provides liaison work with other agencies and systems. Ensures service authorizations are current. Implements program goals and activities in keeping with program philosophy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Maintain Children's Diversion caseload providing crisis intervention and prevention activities to help stabilize the home environment to avert hospitalization, maintain the child in their home, and assist with assimilation once a child is discharged from the hospital.

Collaborate with schools, the court system, and other organizations.

Performs direct clinical services, including, crisis intervention and de-escalation.

Performs indirect clinical services, confirms diagnosis to make the most suitable, least restrictive, and medically necessary clinical recommendations; and assists the consumer and their family in obtaining appropriate programs and resources.

Provides follow-up services for consumers to assist in obtaining necessary services, coordinating with the Access Center or current provider to ensure the consumer is receiving the proper level of care.

Maintains accurate clinical documentation including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, crisis and safety plans, and other required documentation.

Ensures administrative paperwork is accurate and up to date including staff activity logs, statistical reports, attendance, mileage reports, and case lists. Participates in agency and system staff meetings.

Conducts thorough, accurate, and clinically sound screenings with consumers, guardians, and family members in a timely manner.

Requests appropriate authorizations for services provided, monitors utilization of services, and requests re-authorizations or continuations as needed.

Serves on community mental health or community-based committees

Supervises the work of department interns as needed.

Operates an automobile to perform assigned job functions.

Performs related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required Education and Experience:

  • Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or Doctorate in Psychology or a directly related mental health field from an accredited college or university
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience working in a mental health setting
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience working with children who are seriously emotionally disturbed

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Previous community mental health experience with children, adolescents, or adults
  • Two (2) years of clinical experience working in crisis-oriented services specifically for children and families
  • Four (4) years or more experience working in the assessment and treatment of children including to juvenile justice population, Severely Emotionally Disturbed (SED) or Intellectually and Developmentally Disabled (IDD) children
  • Knowledge of the Macomb County Provider Network
  • Formal training specific to crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques

Required Licenses or Certifications:

  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), Limited Licensed Master of Social Work (LLMSW), Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), Limited License Professional Counselor (LLPC), Temporary Limited Licensed Psychologist (TLLP), or Licensed Psychologist (LP)
  • Possession of required state licensure appropriate to position and ability to meet privileging and credentialing guidelines
  • Possession of a valid Michigan driver’s license and operable, insured automobile for authorized travel

Preferred Licenses or Certifications:

  • Certification with the Michigan Certification Board for Addiction Professionals (MCBAP) or an approved development plan

Knowledge of:

  • Working knowledge of resources within MCCMH and outside of Macomb County Community Mental Heal
