Job Description

A Sr. Transmission Operator is needed to support Transmission operations technologies for NBC Sports. This position works with and supports all in the NBC Sports Stamford facility including the NBC Network, Olympics, Golf Channel and Digital/Web content.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the Multiview layouts, video/audio routes, processing configurations and
  • other activities result in a safe and reliable transmission operation; inclusive of
  • transmission lines, switching stations, encoding/decoding, frame syncs, routing
  • and scheduling systems.
  • Interfaces with the Operations and Production departments to ensure all their
  • transmission and routing needs are being met.
  • Interacts with transmission carriers to resolve issues, escalations, maintenance,
  • and overall performance.
  • Oversees the accuracy and availability of standard operation procedures and
  • trains team members on best practices for troubleshooting and maintaining all
  • transmission technologies.
  • Responsible for the configuration, maintaining and troubleshooting of all
  • transmission and communication systems to ensure maximum reliability for all
  • live Sports productions.
  • Creates and develops preventative system maintenance plans, problems
  • resolution check list, and system for tracking transmission logs.
  • Leads day-of event operation of the transmission team.
  • Works on some operational type work as well as hands on highly technical
  • engineering collaboration including advance troubleshooting and signal flow skills.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum XX years of related experience in engineering maintenance or transmission specific operations
  • Must have knowledge of fiber optic technologies and coax transport, MPEG 4 and
  • HEVC encoding and decoding, ASI, MPEG over IP, JPEG2000, MATV/ IPTV,
  • multi-way processors, standards converters, frame syncs, RTS communications
  • systems, and plant routing systems
  • Ability to create and comprehend signal flow documents as well as systems level
  • troubleshooting
  • Proficient with broadcast test and measurement equipment in addition to MS
  • Office, Lucid, and AutoCAD
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to manage highly technical operations teams while
  • interfacing with Engineering, Operations, Production, and 3rd party vendors
  • Ability to remain calm under the pressures of “live” television and competing
  • priorities
  • Ability to prepare and deliver written and oral communications of complex
  • matters
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in a fast-paced Live On-Air
  • environment
  • Ability to carry out tasks assigned in a timely manner
  • Willingness to work nights and weekends
  • Must be able to work out of our facility in Stamford, CT

Desired Characteristics:

4+ years of combined broadcast experience preferred
