A Brief Overview
Produces 2D, 3D, 4D ultrasonic recordings of fetal organs for use by physicians. Increasing demand for our services creates this immediate opportunity for an extremely competent Sonographer to apply non-ionizing high frequency ultrasonic waves for prenatal diagnosis. Ultrasound examinations include a variety of conditions ranging from routine OB/GYN to high risk obstetrical scans to include but not limited to, nuchal translucency, fetal anatomy survey, Doppler studies, biophysical profile, fetal echocardiograms and endovaginal scans. Experience also includes ability to perform guidance for amniocentesis, chronic villus sampling, and other procedures commonly performed in a MFM program. This person must be able to work independently and as a part of a team as well have knowledge of high risk conditions. The sonographer is responsible for daily operations of the sonographic program, patient schedule, equipment maintenance, report of equipment failures, and quality assessment (QA).

Education Qualifications

  • Completed Diagnostic Medical Sonography Training Program at an accredited organization Required


Experience Qualifications

  • Customer service experience. Preferred
  • Experience in a hospital or clinical setting. Preferred
  • Fetal cardiac experience. Preferred
  • Fetal echocardiography experience. Preferred
  • Ultrasound experience with Maternal Fetal Medicine or OB Preferred


Skills and Abilities

  • Must demonstrate excellent technical skills in multiple ultrasound exams.
  • Knowledge of sterile techniques for invasive procedures


Licenses and Certifications

  • Sonography - ARRT Certification is required however certifications may be accepted as determined by department manager.
  • Basic Life Support - BLS Required within 90 days of hire.
  • Registered Obstetrics and Gynecology Sonographer - ARDMS Required
  • Fetal Nuchal Translucency or Nasal Bone Certification through the Fetal Medicine Foundation within one year of hire


What you will do

  • Selects equipment for use in ultrasound setup according to specifications of examination/protocol. Starts equipment, which produces images of internal organs and records diagnostic data on magnetic tape, computer disk, or strip printout.
  • Explains process to patient, and instructs and assists patient in assuming physical position for examination.
  • Selects transducer and adjusts equipment controls according to organ to be examined, depth of field, and other specifications of test. Moves transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observes sound wave display screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
  • Keys test data and patient information into computer of ultrasound equipment to maintain record of test results.
  • Records images of organs shown on display module, or removes strip printout from equipment, to obtain permanent record of internal examination.
  • Disinfects equipment and area.
  • Participates in training of Washburn University students as directed.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of and performs proper high-level disinfection processes for probe care. (If applicable)
  • Selects and adds correct associated examination charges as needed.


Travel Requirements

  • 20% Travel to satellite locations as necessary.
