Job Description

The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.

The Bureau of Water Supply seeks to hire a Administrative Manager (NM) for a position with the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Division within Core Services Directorate located in Valhalla and Kingston, NY.

The mission of the Bureau of Water Supply (BWS) Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Directorate is to actively promote and support the management and implementation of EHS programs through effective communication, education and continuous improvement strategies to protect public health and natural resources and ensure a safe and compliant work environment for all employees.

Under general direction, of the Director of Environmental Health and Safety, the Administrative Manager (NM) will serve as the Medical Surveillance Program Manager and will to plan, coordinate, and manage the Medical Surveillance Program and associated contracts for the Bureau of Water Supply. Specific duties include:

- Tracking related information for purposes of maintaining compliance.

- Planning, coordinating, and managing the Respiratory Protection Program (RPP) for the Bureau of Water Supply, including tracking related information for purposes of maintaining compliance.

- Planning, coordinating, and managing the Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) for the Bureau of Water Supply, including tracking information for purposes of maintaining compliance.

- Planning, coordinating, and managing studies related to employee occupational exposure, including the Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) contract, and tracking information for purposes of maintaining compliance.

- Supporting efforts to implement, maintain, and inspect safe work practices and Environmental, Health and Safety compliance activities within the Bureau of Water Supply and promote a culture of compliance and safety awareness.

- Performs special assignments as requested.

Please note, while this position has been posted for Valhalla, NY, we may change it at the time of hire to accommodate the chosen candidate. Possible alternative reporting location is Kingston, NY.


Special Working Conditions:
Administrative Managers may be required to work shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.


Preferred Skills:

- A Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.

- Ability to travel to meetings, work facilities, and field locations throughout the 2,000 square mile upstate watershed (both east and west of the Hudson River) and in New York City.

- Knowledge of and competency in NYSDEC, NYSDOL and USEPA Environmental Regulations.

- Knowledge of and competency in researching OSHA/PESH Health and Safety Laws and Regulations.

- Proficiency in data analysis

- Familiarity with Microsoft Dynamics CRM platform.

- Proficiency with software products including Microsoft (MS) Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, Outlook, and SharePoint

- Ability to learn DEP-specific database systems

- Ability to perform tasking independently based on general managerial direction.

- Superior and proven ability to independently research technical information and provide fact-based, supported interpretations.

- Ability to write, review, edit and provide comments on EHS regulations, technical reports and plans.

- Strong ability to analyze data effectively and use those results when drawing conclusions and making recommendations.

- Strong database manipulation skills.

- Ability to perform mathematical and statistical calculations.

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with all levels within the organization.

- Superior verbal and written communication skills including pubic speaking/instruction.

- Ability to organize work and provide a high level of time management and planning


Hours and Shift:
35 Hours per week. May be required to work shifts including nights, Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
