A Brief Overview

The Center for Violence Prevention (CVP) at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is seeking a research assistant to support studies that implement and evaluate school-based aggression and bullying prevention programs.  The research assistant will work under the supervision of the study investigators and research coordinators in the School-based Bullying Prevention and Social Emotional Learning pillar of CVP to provide administrative, research, and operational support to a portfolio of research studies that promote social-emotional learning and prevent and reduce aggression and bullying through multi-tiered programs and supports for students, school staff and parents. The research assistant will be part of an interdisciplinary team of research scientists, intervention coaches, research staff, and trainees ranging from undergraduate students to post-doctoral fellows in the areas of psychology, social work, public health, education, and other related fields. 

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to developing and maintaining partnerships with participating schools, recruitment/informed consent of study participants, administering study measures, fidelity monitoring and observations, data entry, verification, cleaning and/scoring, database management, and related research tasks.

An Associate’s Degree is required for this position, and a BA/BS degree is strongly preferred.  Relevant human subjects clinical research experience is required.  Applicants should have high computer proficiency with specific knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Prior experience with data management, REDCap and statistical software (i.e. SPSS, SAS, STAT) is strongly preferred. Also strongly preferred for applicant to have experience working in school settings. This position requires excellent written and oral commination skills, thoroughness, organization, and attention to detail. Works independently but has the ability to work well as part of a team. Applicants must be able to multitask, follow instructions, and demonstrate dependability.

What you will do

• Provide field-based support in the conduct of clinical research studies:
• Participate in recruitment and enrollment procedures, including study introductions to prospective participants and conducting informed consent procedures
• Participate in data collection (e.g., surveys) across multiple time points with a range of study participants (e.g., students, teachers, counselors, parents)
• Monitor intervention fidelity
• Conduct classroom observations
• Distribute participant incentives
• Assist with scheduling and school check-ins
• Participate in school partnership activities
• Meet all quality assurance and confidentiality guidelines for data collection, and ensure accurate and complete data collection during study visits
• Provide research and administrative support in the conduct of clinical research studies:
• Conduct all research activities efficiently and accurately
• Participate in documentation and tracking procedures (e.g., participant lists, consent logs, data collection logs)
• Participate in database creation and management, including Excel, REDcap, and SPSS
• Participate in data entry, verification, cleaning and/or scoring
• Prepare and organize assessment packets, intervention materials & supplies
