About the role:
The Senior Director, Data Scientist will serve as Global Group Head (GGH) for Data Scientists within the Neuroscience group. In this role, you will be a thought leader with deep technical knowledge (e.g. statistics, computer science), or domain expertise across multiple areas.


 

Job Description

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Influences and drives analytical strategy/innovation at advanced expert level directly taking part in interdisciplinary collaboration and decision making for multiple projects, across areas, as applicable.

  • Represent the Data Science function (including Statistics and Computer Science) at internal and external decision boards, develop and mentor other data scientists, and provide strategic, technical, operational and scientific leadership and solutions to the Neuroscience organization.

  • Contributes to the overall strategy and implementation of strategy for Data Science Neuroscience team, to align with Data & Digital strategy for Novartis. Independently lead data science and AI work for global projects in collaboration with various stakeholders. Educate on the use of analytical decision-making across Novartis leadership in research, development, commercial, manufacturing and support functions. Supports external branding of Novartis as a leader in the field of AI/ML and advanced analytics. Supports external branding of Novartis as a leader in the field of Data Science, AI/ML.

  • ensures expert level data science contribution to strategy of critical projects. Independently leads a large project across multiple indications or multiple programs. Independently drive and influence strategy on program development and Health Authority interaction where applicable. Promote and organize data exploration and data science, synthesis of external data to address risks, trial quality, further understanding, and put results into a broader perspective. Collaborate with clinical, regulatory and other strategic functions to influence and drive quantitative decision making and data science in drug development and enable successful impact on robust drug development.

  • Effective partnership with other functions to ensure integrated quantitative input into projects. Propose and implement innovative data science methods to optimize drug development.

  • Plan, prioritize and track project level activities and ensure efficient resource management and agile ways of working within or across projects. Drive planning, assessment, prioritization and tracking of effective partnership with vendors.

  • Represent Neuroscience AQS from data science perspective at internal and external decision boards. Significantly contribute to project team preparation and may play a prominent role representing data science in collaboration with other quantitative functions at HA Advisory Committees and meetings.

  • As partner to senior clinical and scientific leadership, drive strategic data science input and excellence to drug development within the TA/DA/indications.

  • Present to senior leaders advanced data science methods to aid drug development. May be a core member of DA decision boards

  • Drive, steer and mentor others in developing strategic quantitative frameworks for (pre/ early/ full-) clinical programs in close collaboration with (early) project teams and management.

This position will be located at East Hanover, NJ site and will not have the ability to be located remotely.
 

Role Requirements:
Essential Requirements:   

  • Ph.D. in data science, statistics, machine learning or another related field and 10 years of relevant experience with application of innovative quantitative methods from the R&D or academic setting

  • Expert knowledge in a number of relevant quantitative approaches in terms of both theory and hands-on experience 

  • Fluent English oral and written

  • Strong communication and presentation skills

Desired Requirements:

  • Prior experience with late phase drug development needs and activities
     

Novartis Compensation and Benefit Summary:

The salary for this position is expected to range between $194,600 and $361,400 per year. 

The final salary offered is determined based on factors like, but not limited to, relevant skills and experience, and upon joining Novartis will be reviewed periodically.
