Occ Summary
Assume responsibilities for direct nursingcare of assigned patientsunder the supervision of a registered n urse orphysician in patient carearea. Administer medications and special nursing caretechniquesprescribed for assigned patients. Provides nursin g servicesto patientsand families inaccordance with thescope of the LPN asdefined by theNorth Carolina Board of Nursing.
Work Perfor med
Administer medications as prescribed by physician and employ specialnursing care techniques as required; administer intravenous medic ationsand fluids as directed; assist with instrument processing and sche dulingappoints. Maintains required records.Provide and document direct n ursingcare of assigned patients underthesupervision ofa registered nurs eorphysician. Nursing care is guidedby the physician orders and the nurs ingplan of care. Patient responseto care is reported to a registered nur sefor evaluation, interventionand modification of the plan of care. Assi stother health care personnelin the delivery of patient care.Assist phys icians and other nursing personnel in the performance ofvarious diagnost icprocedures and patient teaching.Evaluate nursing care with emphasis on nursing procedures and patientresponses; takes patient concern messages, assists in the delivery ofnursing care and selection of nursing prioriti es.Assist in the development and implementation ofgeneral policies andp rocedures to provide for the emotional and physical comfort and safetyof patients; participate in the formulation of new policies. Participateinm aintaining the environment of care including equipment and othermaterial resources.Participate in the identification of clinical or operational p erformanceimprovement opportunities and assists in performance improveme ntactivities.Assist with control of material resources and maintenance;a ssist inappraisal of effectiveness of material and equipment and reporta nyequipment malfunctions to charge nurse.Participate in in-serviceeducation programs and other conferenceswithin the service.Assist in thetraiie s such as JointCommission, Infection Control, and falls and/orparticipni ng of new employees.May be requested to be a liaison for clinicactivitat e in cliniccommittees.Perform otherrelated duties incidentalto the work described herein.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Kno wledge of scope of licensed practical nurse, ability to delegatetonursin g support staff.Considerable knowledge of the care and treatment of pati ents and specialprocedures that apply to practical nursing.
