This is an OPS (Other Personal Services) positions and as such no paid time off is offered. Health benefits will be offered for full-time employment.  OPS employees are eligible to participate in a deferred compensation plan.

POSITION DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties and responsibilities are those of a public health nursing position assigned to provide comprehensive public health nursing services in Outreach, homes, School, and Clinic settings.

  • Responsible for administering vaccines according to CDC guidelines to infant, children, and adults.
  • Utilizing the public health nursing process, the incumbent will be required to independently assess and administer infant/adult/child immunizations.
  • Provides public health advanced level assessment of health status and health care needs of individuals, families and/or groups of individuals (particularly those with complex and multiple problems and communicable disease) in a variety of settings, including clinics, schools, homes, and other public/community facilities. 
  • Assist with tracking and assessing immunization rates for school age children.
  • May be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency.
  • Emergency operations functions required of the incumbent include but are not limited to special needs shelters, Red Cross shelters, and/or other functions.
  • Perform other duties as required.  

 

 KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES Knowledge of nursing principles and techniques.

  • Knowledge of nursing, public health principles, practices, and/or techniques.
  • Knowledge of Public Health and Services provided.
  • Knowledge of vaccine schedule, types and routes of administration.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse populations, communities, and organizations.
  • Ability to use the nursing process.
  • Ability to follow and work independently using the Standard of care nursing protocols.
  • Ability to administer injectable medications and vaccines.
  • Ability to educate staff, clients, organizations, and communities on importance of immunizations and health.
  • Ability to prioritize, organizes, and schedule work assignments to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to utilize a computer for data entry and health record documentation.
  • Ability to maintain records and reports according to program standards.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Willing to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs shelter, or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man-made or natural.
  2. Current Registered Nurse (RN) in accordance with Chapter 464, Florida Statutes or eligible to practice nursing in accordance with Florida Administrative Code 210-8.22 or 8.27.
  3. Experience working as a Registered Nurse in a Hospital, Clinic setting, Public Health, Home Health Care Facility.
  4. Proficient in written spoken English, Bilingual, English/Spanish or English/ Haitian Creole.
  5. Valid driver’s license free of major infractions and access to an automobile to be utilized for work purposes and receive reimbursement for mileage.
