About the role
Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.
Have you wanted an opportunity to develop electric propulsion systems for an advanced satellite constellation? The "Electric Propulsion Engineer" will work within the Kuiper propulsion team as a subject matter expert for the electric propulsion system.
Key job responsibilities
In this role, you will advise test, manufacturing and mechanical engineers on electric propulsion best practices and perform analyses to support data reviews, development and verification testing and root cause investigations. You will perform trade studies to inform propulsion system design improvements and support development of all design modifications from conception, manufacture and testing through integration in production units.

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
The propulsion engineer will work within multi-disciplinary teams as the go-to source for electric propulsion knowledge. Teams will work on all aspects of propulsion system development, implementation and production and will require you, as propulsion expert, to ensure the key aspects of device operation are being properly considered and tested within constraints. You will aid in test planning, operation and data analysis, co-author test reports and disseminate impactful results.
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, EE or equivalent experience
2+ years of experience with electric propulsion technologies through design or test
3+ years of developing electric propulsion technologies through design & test cycles
Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE)
Familiarity with electric circuit design
Experience with finite element analysis for electromagnetic fields and/or fluid flow

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $93,900/year in our lowest geographic market up to $185,000/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits. Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, EE or equivalent experience
2+ years of experience with electric propulsion technologies through design or test
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or EE3+ years of developing electric propulsion technologies through design & test cycles
Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE)
