Peacock is looking for an experienced Principal Engineer to lead the technical direction and evolve our engineering culture within Video Player Technology. You will become a part of an engineering team building video players and video playback capabilities, streaming content to millions of customers.
The team build video playback SDKs which are integrated into each application across all of Peacock’s supported devices. As such, this role would be best suited to an experienced engineer with excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
You will lead the technical direction across multiple device platforms, ensure API consistency, mentor individuals, embrace diversity and help with building an inclusive and flexible workplace. In this hands-on role, you will be delving into the detail - from code reviews across the teams to contribution to complex solution design and working closely and collaboratively with the application and streaming teams.
What the team does
- Develops libraries providing video playback capabilities of DASH and HLS formats, including ad insertion and video analytics
- Collaborates with video streaming and encoding teams to drive innovation and improvements in video delivery and playback user experience
- Collaborates with teams building Peacock applications, ensuring optimal integration of the video players libraries on all types of devices
Responsibilities
- Work with the engineers across the codebases in TypeScript/JavaScript, Swift, Java and BrightScript to ensure that technical solutions are built in a performant, scalable and consistent way across all devices
- Collaborate both internally and externally across the broader technology organization to ensure sensible and consistent APIs that are both intuitive and easy to use
- Evangelise excellent engineering culture and best practice
- Participate in code reviews across multiple programming languages
- Support requirements analysis by translating high level feature requirements into technical video playback capabilities
- Work closely and collaboratively with engineering managers of the development teams
- Mentor junior engineers in the team and be an integral part to the hiring process to ensure we are onboarding the best talent
- Continuously learn, improve and optimise processes and ways of working
- Provide constructive feedback to help your direct reports grow in their professional careers
Qualifications
Desired Qualifications:
- 6+ years of relevant experience in software engineering
- Expert in at least one of the following languages:
- TypeScript/JavaScript
- Swift
- Java
- BrightScript
- Working knowledge of streami
