Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and efficient Dishwasher / Prep Cook to join our dynamic kitchen team. This dual-role position is essential to the smooth operation of our cafe, ensuring a clean and organized kitchen while assisting with food preparation. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, team-oriented individual with a strong work ethic and a desire to learn and grow within a bustling cafe environment.

Hours: The hours of operations specifically for this role are Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 11:00 am - 5:00 pm (with variation based on the needs of the business).

Requirements

Responsibilities

Dish-washing:

Operate and maintain the dish-washing machine, ensuring all dishes, glassware, cutlery, pots, and pans are thoroughly cleaned and sanitized.

Hand wash specific items as needed.

Store clean dishes and equipment in their designated places.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of the dish-washing area throughout the shift.

Empty trash cans and recycling bins regularly.

Clean and maintain kitchen floors, walls, and work surfaces.

Adhere to all health and safety regulations, including proper use of cleaning chemicals.

Prep Cook:

Assist in the preparation of ingredients for various menu items, including washing, peeling, chopping, slicing, and dicing fruits, vegetables, and other produce.

Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes.

Portion and package food items as directed.

Support line cooks and chefs with basic food preparation tasks.

Ensure all food is prepared and stored according to food safety guidelines.

Monitor inventory levels of prep items and communicate needs to the kitchen manager.

Maintain cleanliness and organization of prep stations and walk-in refrigerators.

General:

Contribute to a positive and respectful work environment.

Communicate effectively with all team members.

Follow all cafe policies and procedures.

Assist with receiving and storing deliveries as needed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Kitchen Supervisor or Cafe Supervisor / Manager.

Qualifications:

Prior experience in a kitchen or food service environment preferred, but not required. We are willing to train motivated individuals.

Ability to work efficiently and quickly in a fast-paced environment.

Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness.

Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 pounds.

Basic understanding of food safety and sanitation principles is a plus.

Reliable transportation (especially important in the Hudson Valley!).

Flexibility to work various shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.

A positive attitude and a passion for food and customer service.

Job Type:

Part Time, non-exempt
