Description
We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Chief Engineer to lead the engineering and maintenance operations for our 240-room extended stay hotel. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience overseeing mid to large-scale hotel operations, including managing complex equipment such as chillers, HVAC systems, and more. This role will involve leading a dedicated team of maintenance technicians and ensuring the building is maintained to the highest standards of safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
This position may require flexible scheduling availability.
Requirements
Job Requirements:
- Oversee the daily operations of the hotel’s maintenance department, ensuring all systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, chillers, pool etc.) are functioning optimally.
- Lead and manage a team of maintenance technicians, providing training, supervision, and support to ensure quality workmanship and timely completion of tasks
- Maintain a comprehensive preventative maintenance program for rooms, public spaces and equipment through QUORE.
- Lead emergency response efforts, including managing critical repairs in the event of system failures or other emergencies.
- Troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions in electrical/mechanical/plumbing systems & other hotel equipment
- Resolving maintenance problems, complaints, and work orders to prioritize and schedule work
- Carpentry and painting skills, as well as drywall and carpet repair work
- Inspecting property to identify potential and current needs
- Manage and monitor maintenance labor and expenses within budgetary guidelines
- Soliciting bids from contractors and evaluating their proposals with hotel management
- Coordinating with local health, safety, fire, and building inspectors to ensure compliance with applicable codes and regulations
- Ensure pool is properly maintained to include cleanliness and chemical content
- Maintain guest satisfaction scores at brand standard or higher and all Internal Audit/Corporate standards set forth by Island Hospitality
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Chief Engineer or in a similar role within a hotel environment, specifically with properties of 200+ rooms.
- Strong technical knowledge of hotel facilities and complex equipment, including chillers, HVAC systems, plumbing, and electrical systems.
- Demonstrated leadership experience, with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team of technicians.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve maintenance issues promptly.
- Strong understanding of building systems and preventative maintenance practices.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal safety regulations, codes, and best practices.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to interact with guests, staff, and vendors in a professional manner.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as required by the demands of the hotel.
Preferred:
- Experience with extended stay or high-rise hotel operations.
- Relevant certifications in building systems, engineering, or maintenance management
