Job Summary
The Associate Director of Sales will be responsible for driving sales, revenue and managing client relationships for events scheduled 18 months out. This will include association and corporate markets for conferences, meetings, and social events. This role requires a proactive approach to sales, exceptional customer service skills, and the ability to work collaboratively with various DECC departments and Visit Duluth to ensure successful events.
Required Education and Experience
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in sales, preferably in the hospitality or events industry.
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Hospitality Management, or a related field.
- Strong writing, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in software and Microsoft Office Suite ability to learn EBMS system and keep organized tracking and notes.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- High level of professionalism and customer service orientation.
- Creative problem-solving skills and ability to manage difficult situations with a calm demeanor, as needed.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment adapting to changes, and unexpected events.

- Responsible for driving sales, revenue and managing client relationships
- Maintain productive working relationships with prospective clients, area convention spaces, exhibition, hotel facilities, and other area meeting venues.
- Generate new leads and maintain data on conventions, leads, and bookings.
- Host site inspections, conduct sales meetings, and produce proposals.
- Conduct and present event bids to attract and secure conventions.
- Travel to the Twin Cities and targeted national destinations as needed for sales meetings and industry events.
- Join and participate in relevant professional organizations (national, regional, or local) to increase expertise, network, and generate business.
- Attend hospitality meetings with local hotels and Visit Duluth Sales team.
- Provide support and professional guidance to meeting planners with comprehensive communication, utilizing in-person conversations, phone calls, and emails.
- Maintain confidentiality of all clienteles.
- Play an essential role on the team to provide a positive experience for all our guests.
- Attend and maintain daily meetings with the Director of Sales. .
- Fully comprehend the DECC’s services, capacities, and capabilities.
Schedule
This position is full time, at least 40 hours a week, typically day hours, Monday through Friday. Some days may require shifts outside of the typical schedule. They must be flexible and able to work outside the t
