About the Role

Sierra Space is looking for a Director of Government Accounting to join our Accounting team. The Director of Government Accounting will report to the Corporate Controller. This role will be a highly visible and critical position to ensure compliance with government accounting regulations including Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain CASB Disclosure Statement and calculate GDM’s for cost accounting changes

  • Lead negotiations with DCMA and DCAA

  • Create all required schedules of the annual Incurred Cost Submission and submit to DCAA/DCMA

  • Handle requests across the business regarding FAR/DFARs/CAS questions

  • Partner with the Compliance Team to support Business System audit requests

  • Partner with Compliance, FP&A, Contracts, Pricing, Supply Chain and other teams on Government compliance issues

  • Provide guidance and input to stakeholders on allowability of costs in partnership with Compliance

  • Review and documentation of indirect rates and rate pools, ensuring rate pools are explained for variance analysis and key drivers (in addition, providing inputs to management on strategy to achieve/manage rate components)

  • Calculation and input of actual rates for year-end close accounting

  • Support the external financial statement audit process

  • Perform monthly actual vs forecast rate analysis and provide to DCMA

  • Research cost issues on programs, including labor and pegging of material costs and work with GL and program teams to resolve

  • Perform root cause analysis and lead multi-functional team to correct any pegging errors

  • Support the GL team in analyzing and correcting issues related to burdens, settlements, assessments, and distributions in SAP

  • Provide Government Accounting review and approval for labor and non-labor cost transfers

  • Assist in managing master data and meta data including costing sheets, cost element groups, WBSs and project types

  • Provide accounting support for special ad-hoc projects as directed by the Corporate Controller

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration or a related field of study

  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR)/Defense Federal acquisition Regulations (DFARS) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)

  • Expert working knowledge and experience in Government Contracting audit and compliance including experience working with DCAA / DCMA Auditors

  • Proven leadership abilities inclusive of successful change management, mentoring, career development, training, succession planning, holding people accountable, and conducting yearly reviews

  • Ability to manage complex situations, delegate authority, lead and inspire teams, drive innovative thinking, instill collaboration, drive success, challenge status quo and demonstrate ability to adapt to dynamic situations
