The Role

HII has an opening for a Director and Assistant Controller, reporting to the Corporate Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer, and Controller. The Director and Assistant Controller is responsible for developing effective policies and procedures to ensure accurate and timely reporting of financial data to management, the Board of Directors, and shareholders.  The Director also advises the sectors on external reporting matters and coordinates the implementation of financial accounting policies and procedures.

 

Specific responsibilities include directing the preparation of:

• Monthly-consolidated financial statements from information furnished by company element Financial Reporting department.
• Filings of interim and annual financial reports with the Securities and Exchange Commission and preparation of financial portions of interim and annual reports to shareholders.

 

Additionally:

• Advises company management on the latest developments in the financial accounting and external reporting fields in coordination with the Corporate Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer, and Controller.
• Researches and analyzes the effects of the application of alternative financial accounting policies or procedures on the company and provides recommendations for adoption.
• Recommends the design of the financial portions of annual reports to shareholders.
• Coordinates the annual independent accountants’ audit of the Corporate Office accounting records and the consolidated financial statements of the company.
• Prepares information for use in interim and annual earnings press releases in support of the corporate Media Relations department.
• Oversees the Company’s programs and efforts to maintain compliance with the Sarbanes Oxley Act requirements.
• Formulates, updates, and reviews proposed additions or changes to finance corporate procedures to ensure compliance with company policies and procedures, as well as Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
• Interfaces with sector finance departments and other corporate finance departments where solutions and/or guidance is required to maintain compliance with company accounting policy and professional standards, answer questions, resolve problems, and interpret company policy.

Must Have

• Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline (typically accounting or finance), plus a minimum of 10 years of applicable, progressive professional work experience, including in a government contracting environment; OR Master's degree and 8 years relevant experience.
• Experience with SEC reporting and SOX compliance requirements.
• Strong analytical and technical accounting skills, strong interpersonal skills and ability to multi-task and thrive in fast paced environment.

Nice to Have

• Master's degree in Accounting or MBA.
• Relevant experience with Big 4 accounting firm.
• CPA certification.
• Experience with aerospace or defense industry.
