Description

We are delighted to announce two permanent, full-time Curriculum Lead vacancies within our Automotive Department at Sandwell College:
  • Curriculum Lead – Entry Level 3 and Level 1
  • Curriculum Lead – Levels 2, 3 and Apprenticeships
Both positions carry the core responsibilities outlined in the attached job description, along with additional duties tailored to each level of provision. These roles offer an excellent opportunity to lead and shape the delivery of high-quality automotive education, supporting our learners to achieve their full potential.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum Lead – Entry Level 3 and Level 1
Additional responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Supporting new staff with lesson planning and delivery, sharing good practice, and ensuring positive learner outcomes.
  • Working with the team and wider college to improve attendance on main programmes, and to close the gap between vocational attendance and English and maths sessions.
  • Using college systems to engage effectively with learners and their families, helping to build strong support networks.
  • Ensuring that resources and facilities meet the needs of the study programme, and developing these further to enhance learner experience and maintain compliance.
Curriculum Lead – Levels 2, 3 and Apprenticeship
Additional responsibilities will include (but are not limited to):
  • Developing strategies and resources to raise achievement on Level 2 and Level 3 Vehicle Maintenance programmes, aligning performance with national benchmarks.
  • Supporting workshop staff to maintain safe, fit-for-purpose workshop environments and robust resource management systems.
  • Strengthening employer partnerships to create meaningful work experience opportunities and clear progression routes into apprenticeships.
  • Working closely with employers to identify current and future industry needs, embedding these into curriculum planning and sharing best practice on emerging technologies and trends.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification
  • Relevant automotive, motorsport, or EV/hybrid technical qualification
  • Proven teaching experience in post-16 automotive education
  • Strong curriculum planning and coordination skills
  • Up-to-date knowledge of EV, hybrid, and diagnostic technologies
  • Understanding of sector developments such as T Levels and qualification reform
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to analyse data to track learner progress and drive improvement
  • Experience working with employers or apprenticeship delivery
Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:
Accepted Qualifications:
  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).
Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications:
  • PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults) 
  • SFHEA (Senior Fellowship)
