Job Details:

Purpose

Hardware and firmware engineering of embedded systems for the Advanced Technology Laboratory of Applied Research Laboratories.

Responsibilities

  • Design embedded electronics hardware containing microcontrollers, A/D converters, power supplies, etc.; including schematics, board layout, fabrication, and troubleshooting.  This hardware will support sonar, radio, and navigation system projects.

  • Robotics electrical design, testing, and debugging

  • Design, develop, and test real-time embedded software applications under various operating systems including Linux and Android.

  • Create supporting documentation for hardware and software designed to support ATL projects.

  • Participate in data collection exercises, data management, and data analysis.

  • Support the installation and testing of equipment in field locations

  • Other related functions as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical/computer engineering or other related engineering or science field. 

  • Experience in designing digital and analog electronics hardware and developing software applications in an embedded environment.

Applicant must be highly organized, have excellent attention to detail, and possess sound scientific judgment.  The position will require effective management of their own time with the ability to plan, coordinate, and execute multiple tasks simultaneously.  Regular and punctual attendance.

US Citizen. Applicant selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information at the level appropriate to the project requirements of the position

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience in the development and implementation of compact battery operated electronics utilizing both analog and digital circuitry. 

  • Experience with robotics and electro-mechanical systems including motors, servos and actuators. 

  • Experience with embedded computers such as MSP430s, DSP’s, FPGA’s and NVIDIA Jetson. 

  • Experience in design synthesis utilizing programmable logic and embedded processors with programmable logic devices. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge of CAD tools including SPICE, PowerLogic, PowerPCB, design tools for Xilinx and Altera programmable logic devices, VisualDSP++, Cross Core, IAR Embedded Workbench and Code Composer Studio. 

  • Demonstrated knowledge in any of the following: C, C++, Java, Android, Linux, real time operating systems, version control systems, defect tracking systems, unit testing.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in one or more of the following areas: acoustics, signal processing, detection theory, pattern recognition and classification, image processing, radio communications. 

  • Prior work experience in professional or research oriented software development.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills.
