About the role

This position provides critical support to leadership in planning, developing, and executing GVSU’s international recruitment and admissions strategies. This role includes managing international recruitment efforts, supporting prospective international students throughout the admissions process, fostering partnerships with educational institutions abroad, and serving as a Designated School Official (DSO) to ensure compliance with U.S. immigration regulations. This role helps drive the university’s goals for increasing international student enrollment and enhancing global engagement.

PRIMARY DUTIES

  • Support leadership: Assist in the development and implementation of international recruitment strategies, working closely with leadership to achieve the university’s international enrollment goals.
  • Operational Oversight: Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of international recruitment activities, ensuring that all processes and timelines are executed efficiently and effectively.
  • Student Recruitment: Conduct outreach efforts to prospective international students, representing GVSU at recruitment events, education fairs, and virtual programs globally.
  • Admissions Coordination: Assist in processing applications for international students, evaluating credentials, and ensuring compliance with university admissions policies.
  • Credential Evaluation: Review and assess international students' academic transcripts and other credentials to determine eligibility for admission, ensuring that they meet the academic standards and requirements set by GVSU.
  • Partnership Development: Help maintain relationships with overseas educational institutions, agents, and recruitment partners to facilitate recruitment initiatives.
  • International Student Engagement: Collaborate with campus partners to provide pre-arrival and onboarding support for international students, ensuring a smooth transition to campus life.
  • Communication & Outreach: Respond to inquiries from prospective international students and their families, providing information about GVSU’s programs, admissions process, scholarships, and campus resources.
  • Marketing Support: Assist in the creation of marketing materials, social media content, and presentations to promote GVSU’s international student offerings.
  • Travel: Represent GVSU in international travel for recruitment purposes, as assigned by leadership.
  • Team Collaboration: Work closely with other team members in the Admissions and Recruitment Office and university-wide departments to align recruitment efforts with broader university goals.
  • Designated School Official (DSO) Responsibilities: Serve as a DSO for GVSU, ensuring compliance with U.S. immigration regulations, maintaining accurate student records in SEVIS, issuing I-20 forms, and advising international students on visa requirements and maintaining their legal status.
  • Perform Other Duties as Assigned: Perform other duties as required/assigned by leadership.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least two to three (2-3) years of experience in international recruitment, admissions, or a related field, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • Knowledge of international student recruitment practices, visa requirements, and admissions processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with diverse cultural groups.
  • Experience with CRM systems and data management tools is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel internationally and domestically as required.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Business, Education, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in a second language.
  • Experience living, studying, or working abroad.
  • Familiarity with international educational systems and credential evaluation.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Normal office environment.
  • Some travel is required.
  • Some evening and weekend work is required at various times throughout the year.

Salary: Approximately $55,000 - $65,000, commensurate with experience
