Requirements
What are we looking for?
In our first two years of operation, we have built a robust legislative advocacy arm. We engaged our members in civic life and mobilized them to advocate for policies and programs that address their economic needs. We now want to make sure our members know about and can access the government programs that they helped secure and that were intended to benefit everyday Americans.
We are looking for a motivated Director of Civic Tech Products to help us design and manage the development of advocacy and civic tech products, starting with the development of a brand new product with an ambitious scope and timeline. We’re still formulating the strategy that the incoming Director will execute, but if the strategic questions below get you inspired and ready to roll up your sleeves, you might be a good fit for this role.
- Reach: To reach millions of people, what product – or combination of products and technologies – can broaden our reach?
- Product-channel fit: We engage with members on many channels. Is there an existing single product that can work across channels, or are we leveraging a slate of products?
- Human touch: We take pride in building relationships with our members. How can we talk to lots of people and still maintain the human element?
- Systems alignment: We know it will likely take more than one product and more than one system to generate good user insights. How can we build out a tech stack and product ecosystem that is mutually reinforcing?
- Iterative development: Ultimately, we want to make sure people can access the benefits of government programs. How can we build these products to evolve as we learn what helps or inhibits members from getting to the finish line?
- A commitment to improving the economic security of everyday Americans
- 5-7 years of product management experience, especially consumer-oriented products
- Experience with products and solutions that engage everyday people over SMS and another channel (phone, web, email, and social media)
- Experience scoping/negotiating vendor contracts and managing them to deliver on time and on budget
- Demonstrated ability to apply research, usability tests, metrics, and other methods (human-centered design, agile, etc.) to inform design and development solutions
- Experience with leveraging AI technology to automate elements of a complex workflow
- An understanding of back-end infrastructure/service configuration best practices that promote a solid architecture
- Strong communication skills and experience translating complex engineering and technical challenges to a non-technical audience
- Ability to partner with field, data, and marketing teams as they creat
Plainly, our goal is to create a best-in-class user experience and we need a confident go-getter willing to consider and leverage a range of technologies to do so. To be successful in this role, it’s gonna take excellent project management skills, as this capability build will be a high-profile project on a tight timeline for launch.
Not only is the work meaningful, the opportunity to add value is high. You’ll be a valuable thought partner who will contribute to WorkMoney’s overall product and tech strategy, offering insights on when/where WorkMoney should leverage partners versus build tools in-house.
