Consulting Senior Associate, Environmental Scientist (Entry Level)

ERM is seeking a self-starting, dynamic, and motivated Consulting Senior Associate, Environmental Scientist/ Biologist/ Ecologist to join our Impact Assessment team in either Austin or Houston, Texas; or New Orleans, LA. As part of our Impact Assessment Team, you will provide high-quality technical support to ERM clients in a junior scientist role while working closely with ERM Project Managers and Partners on a variety of environmental permitting, due diligence, and impact assessment projects to support our clients. You will have the opportunity to develop your technical report writing, data management and quality control, and field technical and safety skills, with travel to project sites to perform wetland delineations, protected species assessments, and other types of field studies. Field work will include domestic travel to conduct fieldwork up to 75% of the time. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- With appropriate guidance and supervision, provide creative and fit-for-purpose technical analyses in impact assessment and work collaboratively with subject matter experts in other fields and backgrounds.
- Perform project delivery activities including field surveys, sampling, inspections, collecting and organizing field survey data, performing research/ literature reviews, writing field notes and reports.
- Assist with wetland delineations and onsite protected species habitat assessments and surveys, including using electronic data collection with sub-meter accurate GPS, and conduct post-survey data/management and analysis.
- Provide technical assistance on a wide range of capital infrastructure and other projects including, environmental due diligence services, habitat assessments, wetland delineations and reports, Phase I Environmental Site Assessments, and other related environmental projects.
- Conduct tasks related to environmental assessments that include but are not limited to land use planning/facility siting, pipeline and/or transmission line routing studies, renewable energy desktop and field-based environmental assessments and reporting, and development of permit matrices and risk assessments.
- Assist in preparation of project-specific compliance management plans in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
- Support multi-media permitting and compliance documentation with an emphasis on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, National Marine Fisheries Service, and various state and local agencies.
- Provide technical consulting skills to support the growth of ERM’s service offerings.
- Interact directly with clients and their SMEs on matters related to biology and environmental science.
- Work within quality/budget/schedule expectations and scope-specific assignments.
- Complete work assignments in accordance with ERM's management system, format and quality standards.
REQUIREMENTS:
- BA/BS degree in an environmental science, biology, or natural resources discipline.
- 1-2 years of experience required.
- Strong commitment to safety, including following established Health & Safety protocols, and ability to work safely outdoors in variable weather conditions and in variable terrains.
- Detail-oriented with excellent critical thinking and trouble-shooting/problem-solving skills.
- Effective written/verbal communication and organization/analytical skills; experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports.
- Strong technical report writing skills. Experience recording/writing detailed technical data and reports and building tables and spreadsheets (including tabulation and manipulation of data).
- Demonstrated attributes to become a strong consultant: team player, eagerness to learn and grow, self-starter who takes initiative, versatile, and service-oriented mentality.
- Highly organized with keen eye for detail, but with the ability to maintain the big picture.
- Ability to multi-task, maintains flexibility, and works independently with minimal supervision.
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
- Local candidates preferred.
