Responsibilities
Draper's Perception and Embedded Machine Learning Group seeks a motivated graduate intern to help us develop, integrate, and deploy advanced perception systems enabling autonomous vehicles and robots to operate in complex environments such as underwater, ground, air, and space. Students will work side-by-side with Draper engineers to develop and implement state of the art solutions for multi-robot autonomy, GPS-denied navigation, 3D mapping, obstacle avoidance, and/or robotic perception. Examples of previous systems developed by our group include vision-based Terrain Relative Navigation (TRN) for guided parafoils or spacecraft landing, vision-aided inertial navigation for UAVs, localization systems for teams of soldiers, and real-time 3D mapping.
Duties may include algorithm development, test support, data analysis, and software development for autonomous air, space, ground, or underwater systems. The candidate should be capable of contributing to and integrating state-of-the-art algorithms, analyzing data from simulation and field tests, and effectively working within multi-disciplinary teams.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. (in progress) in Computer Science, Robotics, Aerospace Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or similar field of study
- Research or technical contributions in one or more of the following fields: vision-aided navigation, computer vision, perception, mapping, sensor fusion, and machine learning
- Programming experience in C/C++ or Python
Preferred Qualifications:
- Broad robotics experience, especially integration and test with robotics platforms
- Experience with stochastic estimation algorithms (e.g., Extended Kalman Filters)
- Experience with collaborative multi-vehicle teaming algorithms
- Exposure to adjacent subfields of robotics, such as: trajectory or motion planning; planning under uncertainty; optimal control; guidance, navigation & control (GN&C); and deep learning
- Experience working as a member of a multi-developer team using collaboration tools such as Git
- Experience working in a Linux development environment and with Robot Operating System (ROS)
