We are recruiting for a highly driven cross-functional leader with proven product development and technical leadership to drive program success. This position leads the design of the product, planning of the development effort, and drives the team’s efforts in execution of all engineering phases. Specifically, this individual will leverage best practices in cross functional team leadership to drive excellence in product design and development and sustaining. In this exciting and highly impactful role, the successful candidate will manage key timelines, cross-functional interdependencies, and lead core team resources while being accountable to deliver the target scope and outcomes.

This is a critical role within the BD MMS R&D Hardware Engineering Team, with direct visibility at the leadership of the business and has a major impact on the successful completion of a strategically important program. We are seeking an innovative, passionate, and highly capable individual with a proven track record of sustained success in the execution of complex cross functional programs. Adoption of best practices and visual methods in technical program management, and the completion of mission critical product development activities will be key success factors.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Strategic Planning:

  • Lead cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions for sustaining and new product development.
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Compliance, Regulatory, and PMO teams to define program requirements and market needs.
  • Develop and manage strategic project portfolio roadmaps spanning 1-3 years.

Project and Program Management:

  • Create, refine, and execute integrated program plans with clear milestones and deliverables.
  • Execute CAPA by guiding cross-functional teams to resolution.
  • Ensure program objectives are well-defined and communicated, balancing scope, schedule, and resources.
  • Anticipate potential risks, develop contingency plans, and lead governance mechanisms to ensure project success.
  • Facilitate timely and effective Phase Gate reviews and other decision-making processes with executive leadership.

Engineering and Technical Oversight:

  • Guide the development of technical architectures and ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards. IEC-60601 and IEC-61010
  • Drive design reviews, providing critical, objective feedback to ensure robust solutions.
  • Oversee architecture, design processes, and testing plans to meet agency and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor project progress and manage schedules, including work breakdown structures and task dependencies.

Team Leadership and Personnel Management:

  • Directly manage the performance, goals, and deliverables of engineering staff.
  • Conduct performance reviews and develop individualized growth plans for team members.
  • Collaborate with functional leaders to allocate and align resources with program needs.
  • Foster a collaborative, goal-oriented culture that promotes continuous improvement and execution excellence.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Mechanical or Electrical preferred or similar related field
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in the medical device industry, with a focus on engineering leadership roles or equivalent experience
  • Strong knowledge of medical device design, development, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex engineering projects and lead cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving
