Principal Scientist Residue Analytical Chemist 

 

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The registration of the company’s crop protection products in North America requires a comprehensive safety evaluation, including a safety and risk evaluation dossier submitted to regulatory authorities. This position will have principal investigator or study director study responsibilities and may contribute in the development of trace residue analytical methods, the conduct of residue analyses in soil, water, air, plant, and animal, operating liquid chromatography mass spectrometers, the identification of unknown small molecules, and troubleshooting of technical issues to meet regulatory requirements for the purpose of obtaining pesticide registrations with various regulatory agencies. This position will involve laboratory testing. 

 

The primary responsibilities of this role, Principal Scientist Residue Analytical Chemist, are to: 

 

  • Performs, or guide performing laboratory based analytical residue studies to determine the behavior of BCS products in crops, soils, water, or animal matrices in full compliance with GLP standards;
  • Function as an Analytical Principal Investigator or Study Director for GLP studies, and ensure all tasks associated with the study are compliant;
  • Understand the appropriate chemistry guidelines at a working knowledge to support international product registrations and prepare study protocols that meet these requirements;
  • Solve day to day problems in study conduct thereby ensuring that studies progress to required deadlines;
  • Develop quantitative analytical methods and processing strategies for pesticide residues, and perform residue sample analysis from various matrices;
  • Possibly perform identification and confirmation of key degradants and metabolites from radiolabeled studies;
  • Evaluate data and prepares reports for submission to regulatory authorities ensuring that the study meets the required business objective;
  • Tailor reports to regulatory concerns, and communicates with members of the appropriate project/asset teams to ensure that work in progress remains aligned with the regulatory strategy;
  • Possibly plan and direct the work of junior team members performing study tasks, including mentoring in designing suitable studies, and taking overall responsibility for the completion of projects;
  • Possibly coordinate and review work of external contractor research organizations;
  • Accurately assesses and forecasts time and resources needed to complete assigned studies and projects;
  • Anticipate changes in project timing based on interpretation of current results and alert project management of significant departures;
  • Maintain awareness of new developments in areas of expertise and make recommendations as to their adoption into Environmental Safety (EnSa) programs;
  • Be a participant in the EnSa Team process for area of expertise and contribute to the development of compound "issue documents", driving the resolution of any issues;
  • Represent BCS externally at industry meetings or at discussions with regulatory agencies;
  • Follow company compliance programs, and fully observe all workplace safety regulations.

Required Qualifications: 

 

  • Bachelor's degree and experience in Analytical Chemistry, Metabolomics, or related field;
  • Ability to conducts complex scientific projects, and can prioritize tasks in a frequently changing environment;
  • Technical expert in trace residue analysis using Liquid Chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry;
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • Experience in quantitative analytical method development and trace residue analysis in a variety of matrices, or experience in structure elucidation and confirmation of unknown small molecules;
  • Strong analytical technical troubleshooting and problem solving;
  • Working knowledge of global regulatory processes and guidelines for crop protection ch
