We collaborate with public and private sectors, including state transportation departments, counties, and municipalities, across Ohio and beyond.Join us in our growth journey as we seek experienced ODOT Prequalified Asphalt Lab Technicians for the 2026 season to help shape the future of our projects in ODOT in District 8 near Cincinnati. District 8 includes Preble, Butler, Hamilton, Warren, Clermont, Greene, and Clinton counties.
Key Responsibilities
- Key responsibilities
- Material testing: Conduct standardized tests on asphalt and aggregate samples to determine properties like specific gravity, air voids, and gradation.
- Equipment maintenance: Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory testing equipment to ensure accurate results.
- Data management: Prepare and submit detailed test reports, often using Microsoft Excel, to communicate findings to relevant personnel.
- Quality control: Ensure that materials meet the quality standards and specifications set by ODOT and project requirements.

Safety and compliance: Adhere to all health, safety, and environmental protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
Sample handling: Collect, prepare, and organize samples of asphalt, aggregates, and other construction materials.
Field and lab work: Perform some field testing, such as density checks on newly paved sections, and assist engineers as needed.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Education: A High School Diploma or GED is typically required.
- Certifications: ODOT-specific certifications are often mandatory, including ODOT Asphalt Concrete School levels 1 and 2, Aggregate certification levels 1 and 2, and an ACI Concrete Strength Testing certificate.
- Technical knowledge: Familiarity with relevant standards like ASTM and AASHTO is crucial, along with knowledge of specific testing equipment such as the NCAT ignition oven.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment are important.
