Job Description

The Staff Nurse, License Pending – by Endorsement exemplifies the attributes of an NM nurse, reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.

The Staff Nurse, License Pending- by Endorsement, position adheres to the State of Illinois Nurse Practice Act (225 ILCS 65/ Nurse Practice Act. (ilga.gov) and is used for RNs licensed in another state pending the completion of the Illinois licensure process. As a member of the clinical care and unit team, the RNLP participates in decision-making, teaching, leadership functions, research, and quality improvement activities that enhance patient care outcomes and unit operations. 

Responsibilities

• Assessment:  Collects and Analyzes Patient Data.

1. Data collection involves the patient and includes the family and significant other as appropriate.
2. The priority of data collection activities is determined by the patient’s immediate condition or need.
3. Pertinent data are collected using appropriate assessment techniques and instruments.
4. The data collection process is systemic and ongoing.

• Planning:  Develops a Plan of Care that Prioritizes Care Using an Interdisciplinary Approach.

1. Individualize the plan to the patient (e.g., age-specific, culturally sensitive, etc.) and the patient’s condition.
2. Develops the plan with the patient, family, and significant other as appropriate and provides education utilizing suitable instructional materials and methods.
3. The plan reflects the current nursing practice and provides for continuity of care.
4. Documents the plan.

• Implementation:  The Nurse Implements the Interventions Identified in the Plan of Care.

1. Interventions are consistent with the established plan of care.
2. Interventions are implemented in a safe, timely, and appropriate plan of care.
3. Documents the interventions.

• Evaluation:  The Nurse Evaluates the Patient’s Progress toward the Attainment of Goals.

1. Evaluation is systemic, ongoing, and criterion-based.
2. The patient, family, significant other, and interdisciplinary team members are involved in the evaluation process as appropriate.
3. Ongoing assessment data are used to revise outcomes and the plan of care as appropriate.
4. The effectiveness of interventions is evaluated in relation to outcomes.
5. The patient’s responses to interventions are documented. 

• The Nurse Contributes to Team Effectiveness within the Unit.

1. Demonstrates accountability and collaborative practice with co-workers, other disciplines, and departments. Identifies potential conflictual situations and facilitates resolution using established communication channels.
2. Participates in the formation, implementation, and evaluation of unit goals.
