Job Description
Postdoctoral Research Scientist – Device Development & Technology
Join the Legacy: Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program
Our company's Research Laboratories Postdoctoral Research Fellow Program is designed to be a premier initiative for industrial postdoctoral researchers, offering an academic focus within a commercial environment. With the extensive resources and expertise of a leading pharmaceutical company, our postdoctoral researchers are positioned to thrive in an institution dedicated to breakthrough innovation in research and discovery.
Position Overview:
The Pharmaceutical Sciences & Global Clinical Supply (PSCS) organization at our company's Research Labs is responsible for translating novel therapeutic agents into functional drug products optimized for patient use. Within PSCS, the Device Development & Technology team is seeking a passionate Postdoctoral Fellow to conduct research in drug/device combination product development. This position is available for immediate start.
Responsibilities:
We are particularly interested in candidates with experience in both formulation and device/combination product development. Valuable skills include:
Analytical and biophysical characterization
Mechanical design and testing
Fracture mechanics
Multi-physics analysis, including diffusion and permeability studies
Additional responsibilities will involve characterizing device performance and utilizing computer-aided design (CAD) and prototyping techniques, such as 3D printing, to develop fixtures and device components.
We seek a highly motivated, autonomous, and responsible postdoctoral researcher who is creative, organized, and a critical thinker. The ideal candidate will thrive in a challenging, fast-paced, and intellectually stimulating environment. Given the interdisciplinary nature of our research, we encourage applicants from all engineering and scientific disciplines, including mechanical engineering, materials science, biomedical engineering, chemical and biomolecular engineering, and applied physics.
Education Minimum Requirement:
Candidates must hold a PhD in mechanical, material, biomedical, pharmaceutical or equivalent engineering fields or complete a PhD within 6 months of offer acceptance.
Required Experience and Skills:
Strong computational skills for design analysis and solving complex technical problems using first principle or numerical analysis (e.g., finite element analysis)
Basic understanding of formulation development and biologics characterization
Proficiency in designing and rapidly prototyping medical devices and combination products using state-of-the-art tools, including CAD, 3D printing, laser cutting, and injection molding
Ability to perform mechanical testing and statistical analysis on data from feasibility studies
Experience in multi-physics analysis and simulation, particularly diffusion and permeability analysis
Knowledge of failure analysis of materials, including fracture mechanics of brittle materials
Capacity to apply scientific and engineering expertise creatively and independently to solve problems
Experience in literature mining and reviewing publications and manuscripts
Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and formal presentations) with a proven ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Knowledge or interest in evaluating device design for combination products and formulations
Hands-on experience or knowledge of biologics or vaccines, along with related formulation development
Interest in developing innovative pre-filled syringe-based drug delivery technologies
Demonstrated experience publishing peer-reviewed journal articles on the development of biomedical or healthcare technologies, with rigorous modeling and analysis
