Purpose

University Housing and Dining (UHD) at the University of Texas at Austin is looking for a Print Production Specialist to manage the department’s print production process and equipment. This role manages several large-format printers, a laminator, plotter/cutter and similar equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the UHD printing facility, including prepress, banner printing, vinyl printing, lamination, installation management, and vendor management. Manages all print production jobs, equipment, and supplies, including raw materials procurement and inventory. Facilitates the production process, from concept design to site inspections to finished installations. May personally install smaller jobs on campus. Responsible for managing print production consumables inventory, production procedures, and guidelines.

  • Manages all vendor relationships for printing, installation, brand collateral procurement, and delivery. Also manages the billing and budgeting for all assigned projects. Manages and supervises outside vendor services in accordance with UHD marketing needs.

  • Works closely with the marketing team on print production, cost analysis, vendor management, installation techniques, and quality assurance. Provides accurate cost, specifications, and production time estimates to fulfill the needs of the customer.

  • Plans printing projects in a manner that will ensure cost-effectiveness and prompt delivery. Participates in long-term planning for equipment and new technology acquisition.

  • Assists in developing and administering the unit’s budget and makes adjustments as required to reflect current operating costs. Develops bid specifications for materials, equipment, and contracts used by the department, evaluates all bid submissions for compliance with the specifications, and makes award recommendations. Performs related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree

  • At least one year promoting products or services

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years of experience managing large format printers, including vinyl production. 

  • 2 years of experience using Adobe Creative Suite, various RIP software, and file management.

  • Knowledge of large-format print production processes, paper specifications, substrate specifications, lamination techniques.

  • Knowledge of pre-press techniques and requirements.

  • Ability to prioritize workload and manage multiple projects from concept through production in multiple media.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.

Driving Required

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
