Job Description

The Senior Transcriber is responsible for transcribing and captioning news, specials, scripted programs, sports, and various other shows for Telemundo and the NBC organization. The role includes transcribing Spanish audio into Spanish text, summarizing and translating content into natural, high-quality English, and performing quality control (QC) of transcriptions and translations completed by others. The Senior Transcriber will also utilize text-to-speech programs and AI platforms to ensure accuracy and efficiency while making manual adjustments for precision.

Job Duties

  • Responsible for writing, timestamping, and performing advanced quality control (QC) on all closed captioning and subtitle files for broadcast, Peacock, and Netflix, both live and offline.
  • Accurately transcribes shows, promos, movies, and short videos in Spanish with 100% precision (correct grammar, punctuation, accentuation, and tenses), serving as the go-to expert for team guidance on quality standards, grammar rules, and feedback.
  • Translates television programs, promotional material, films, and short videos, ensuring the most native and culturally relevant interpretation, avoiding literal translations.
  • Performs in-depth QC on text-only files and video files, in both English and Spanish, guaranteeing final content is grammatically and contextually flawless (correct tenses, punctuation, spelling, and usage).
  • Oversees live captioning QC, identifying errors in real time and producing reports to refine workflows, enhance accuracy, and contribute to AI glossary and model updates.
  • Creates and analyzes weekly quality and productivity reports, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring team-wide excellence in deliverables.
  • Performs proactive research to resolve unknown terms during transcription or translation, ensuring the highest quality output.
  • Utilizes advanced tools and software, such as Dragon Naturally Speaking, Closed Caption Creator, or any other AI-based technology, to enhance efficiency and meet tight deadlines while leveraging automation to maintain high-quality standards.
  • Collaborates with internal and external transcribers or translators, reviewing and refining subtitle files to align with established workflows.
  • Demonstrates expertise in dubbing workflows as needed, ensuring consistency between captions and localized audio.
  • Contributes to the refinement of AI workflows, ensuring timely turnaround of deliverables while adhering to team parameters and client specifications.
  • Provides updates to leadership on progress and assists with special projects or other tasks as needed.
  • Works under the direct supervision of the Sr Manager, Edit & Language Operations and is responsible for completing any other tasks as assigned by Manager.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience
  • Native or near-native fluency in Spanish with advanced proficiency in English grammar, syntax, and language structure.
  • Proven ability to transcribe Spanish audio accurately into Spanish text.
  • Skilled in translating Spanish content into natural, idiomatic English, capturing the tone, intent, and meaning without relying on literal translation.
  • Exhibits comprehensive understanding of subtitle formatting standards and closed captioning regulations, including compliance with FCC guidelines in English and Spanish.
  • Prior experience utilizing transcription and translation tools, including speech-to-text software (e.g., AWS, Stanza, CCC, OOONA) and AI-driven solutions to streamline workflows.
  • Hands-on experience leveraging AI tools for transcription and translation processes, including contributing to workflow optimization and model updates.
