Data Engineering Manager

Our team has successfully launched a new and innovative technology platform, Allē, which serves millions of consumers, tens of thousands of aesthetics providers and thousands of colleagues throughout the US. Since its launch in November 2020, Allē has delivered curated promotions, personalized experiences and had millions of consumers use it as part of their beauty journey.

As the Data Engineering Manager, you will report to the Director, Data and Machine Learning, as well as continuously collaborate with key stakeholders across the business to solve the most important technical problems.

Responsibilities

• Take ownership for achieving objectives and key results for your team, allocate resources, oversee & own technical solutions, communicate schedule, status, and milestones

• Lead and manage a team of data engineers by setting goals, supervising work, providing guidance, evaluating performance, removing barriers, cultivating career development, and promoting job satisfaction

• Work closely with stakeholders to understand project requirements and define project plans for the development and enhancement of the data platform

• Communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Translate technical concepts into understandable terms for different audiences.

• Collaborate with architects and senior engineers to design scalable and efficient data platform architectures. Ensure that the chosen technologies align with the organization's goals and future needs.

• Review code and provide technical guidance to ensure high-quality code standards and adherence to best practices in data engineering.

• Oversee the reliability and performance of the data platform. Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to identify and address issues proactively.

• Enforce data governance policies and best practices. Ensure data quality, security, and compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

• Assess and integrate new data tools and technologies that can enhance the capabilities of the data platform. Consider factors such as scalability, performance, and compatibility with existing systems

• Proactively identify potential risks related to data infrastructure, and develop strategies to mitigate them. Ensure that the data platform is resilient to failures and disruptions.

• Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data engineering. Encourage continuous learning and skill development within the team.

Required Experience & Skills

• Completed BS, MS, or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Operations Research, or other quantitative field

• 7+ years of experience as a Data Engineer developing and maintaining data pipelines, infrastructure and architecture

• 2+ year of experience managing at least 4 Data Engineers

• Experience with various tools and technologies employed in Data Processing, Storage, Cataloging, Observability, and Governance

• Strong programming skills in Python and understanding of core computer science principles

• Experience in assessing and implementing new data tools and frameworks to enhance the data engineering stack and developer experience

• In-depth knowledge of data platform development, data warehousing, and data integration

• Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, Docker, Kubernetes

• Experience with architecting solutions on AWS or equivalent public cloud platforms.

• Experience with developing data APIs, Microservices and event driven systems

• Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills

• Experience in project management, resource allocation, and stakeholder collaboration.

• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a technical team
