About the role

The Royal Hobart Hospital is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist Radiology vacancy.

Suitable applicants would be: 

  • A fellow of the Australian and New Zealand College of Radiology (RANZCR) and have specialist recognition.
  • Or an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway with the RANZCR.

The position is full time, but conditions are flexible including the opportunity to work a 4 day week.

Applicants seeking part time employment or, who wish to spend some time in private will also be considered.

Who are we?

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions.  All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.

The Department of Medical Imaging (DMI) is solely based within The Royal Hobart Hospital.   It includes all imaging modalities, including US, Fluro, CT, PET, MRI and Angiography.

It services all inpatient imaging requests and a number of requests from the outpatient departments.

Competitive Salary and Allowances

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.

  • Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

The following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available: 

  • A market allowance between $54,000 and $95,000 pro rata per annum, depending on level of experience.
  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle (subject to working full-time hours) OR allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,786 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 pro rata per annum.
  • On call allowance % of Base Salary.
  • All other allowances as per current Award.
  • And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

The Role

Within the discipline of Radiology:

  • Provide Specialist in-patient and out-patient care to patients of the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
  • Be involved with undergraduate teaching and post graduate teaching.
  • Undertake research and quality improvement activities.
  • Conduct radiological examinations and report findings.
  • Provide advice on radiological findings and investigations required to other consultants and medical staff.

Duties:

  • Participate in the after-hours on-call roster.
