Department Overview

Diablo Canyon has a robust engineering organization performing design, configuration control, systems, components and specialty engineering functions reporting to the Engineering Director.  There are five Managers leading five Engineering Sections within the Engineering Department.  The Technical Support Services Engineering Section has four groups, one of which is the Engineering Fix-It-Now team.  The Diablo Canyon Power Plant (DCPP) Engineering Fix-it-Now (EFIN) provides engineering support to DCPP Operations, Maintenance, Regulatory Services, and provides a primary interface for Diablo Canyon Power Plant Engineering.

 

Position Summary

This is a senior-level engineer job that requires mastery of the associate and journey level engineer skills and duties and is responsible for leading the engineering and design of more complex projects and tasks. You will use independent judgment in applying engineering principles and working with limited supervision. You will work with operations and maintenance personnel, engineers, project managers, and other business partners in assessing project and plant needs.

 

This category is for the engineer that has acquired extensive knowledge of concepts, principles and practices, and works independently with only general direction. This senior engineer provides technical direction to engineers and completes assignments that require integration with other departments and are of broad scope and complexity.

 

May be required to fill a rotation in the DCPP Emergency Response Organization (ERO) as necessary.

 

To obtain and maintain employment and unescorted access at DCPP, you must be able to pass a drug and alcohol screen, a security background check, psychological screen, computer-based training, and be subject to random drug and alcohol screening.

 

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, collective bargaining agreements, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.​

 

A reasonable salary range is (2024 rates):​

California Minimum: $148,272​

California Maximum: $190,488

 

Qualifications  

Minimum

  • A four-year Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited curriculum in the United States or the equivalent as defined in ANSI/ANS-3.1 – 1993, MA/MS/PHD desired
  • Mastery of the Associate and Journey level Engineer job duties and demonstrated knowledge and ability to perform the basic duties of the Senior Engineer. Meets specific technical requirements gained through a minimum of eight years of cumulative experience in engineering and related science

 

Desired

  • Bachelors Degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Current and active California PE license desired, or technical equivalents for positions for which a PE/EIT is not applicable (e.g. Radiation Protection engineer, Chemistry engineer, etc.)
  • Extensive knowledge/experience of AC & DC equipment
  • Knowledge and experience with the operation, maintenance, and trouble shooting of plant electrical equipment
  • Working knowledge of technical evaluation and analysis techniques
  • Design and calculation qualifications
  • Independent Technical Review qualification
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic team environment
  • Ability to use human performance tools to minimize errors in response to emergent work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated technical writing skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and SAP
