WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING| THE ROLE

 

Description of Job: We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Accounting Manager to oversee the financial operations of a team of 4-6 property accountants and their portfolio of properties. The Accounting Manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory standards, and providing strategic financial guidance to support the company's objectives.

 

Job Duties/Skills

  • Manage the full accounting cycle for the portfolio, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end close processes.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance and training to ensure high performance and professional development.
  • Coordinate and oversee the preparation of financial statements, budgets, forecasts, and variance analysis reports for senior management and stakeholders.
  • Work with Controller to develop and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard assets, mitigate risks, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including property managers, leasing agents, and asset managers, to support financial decision-making and optimize property performance.
  • Review and analyze property financial performance, identifying opportunities for cost savings, revenue enhancement, and operational efficiencies.
  • Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory agencies to facilitate audits, tax filings, and compliance reporting.
  • Stay abreast of accounting standards, regulatory changes, and industry trends to ensure adherence to best practices and drive continuous improvement.
  • Support special projects and initiatives as assigned by senior management, contributing financial expertise and insights to achieve organizational goals.

WHAT YOU BRING| THE PERSON

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
  • CPA preferred.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, preferably in property management or real estate.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and proficiency in GAAP; knowledge of IFRS and real estate accounting principles is a plus.
