A Day in the Life
The person in this role may work remotely within the US or onsite at a US-based Medtronic facility.The Senior Principal IT Technologist is a hands-on individual contributor and technical peer leader and will work alongside other business- & functional analysts, gathering business requirements, performing detailed requirements analysis, developing technical architecture & design for solutions for our Quality Management Platforms in collaboration with enterprise solution-, integration- and data architects. The Technical Lead will be a pivotal member of our Quality Systems team and will provide clarity and guidance to the delivery team and will collaboratively work with stakeholders to drive solutions that meets the needs of business capabilities.
In this role, you will lead design workshops and sessions with the development team. Solutions will need to be global, cross-operating unit, and cross-functional (Regulatory, Quality and IT). Should have good communication skills and be able to explain difficult concepts to non-technical users.

Work with other business functional analysts and business SME’s to collaborate on process definition, gathering of business requirements, and translating these with a view to a scalable design for future growth into well architected Electronic Quality Management Systems (eQMS) that help drive the digital transformation and continuous improvement of the technology that supports the quality of Medtronic’s products.
- Lead technical design sessions; Architect and document technical solutions aligned with business requirements; Identify gaps between current and desired end states.
- Collaborate closely with other solution-, enterprise- and data architecture stakeholders to ensure a seamless integration and alignment to Medtronic standards.
- Present architecture documentation and obtain approvals through the Architecture Review Board.
- Manage technical delivery of custom development/configuration, integrations, firewall requests, and data migration elements of project implementations.
- Mentor development team to provide awareness of best practices.
- Follow and help define coding/configuration standards. Lead code/configuration reviews to ensure quality and design standards are followed.
- Maintain relevant documentation such as Technology Roadmaps, Functional Technical Design documents and Code Reviews and ensure proper validation documentation is created for all projects according MSCM (Medtronic Systems Compliance Methodology) and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations such as FDA 21CFR, ISO13485 and EU MDR.
- Assist in debugging escalated issues for projects on our Quality platforms.
- Drive best practices in operational excellence and partner with I&O on reports and metrics regarding platform performance and stability.
