About the role

This position assists in research within The Reef Lab at Tulane University. A main focus of the position is managing databases of coral-core and tree-ring images and coordinating workshops related to the CoralCT and TreeTracer software applications. Additionally, the lab does extensive work with drone-based imagery in Louisiana and on U.S. coral reefs. Potential drone-related work could include preparing permit applications, planning unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) flights, and organizing travel. Applicants do not necessarily need to be well-aligned with both the database management and drone aspects of the position, but rather ability and willingness to learn are crucial.

  • Basic computer skills and data organization experience

  • Technical writing skills

Required Background Check, Physical, and Drug Screening for Incumbents Who Have Contact or Exposure to Animals or Animal Tissues:

Selected candidates must complete and pass a background check and an occupational health screening as a condition of employment. For identified jobs, a drug screening will also be required. The background investigation, required occupational health screening, and any required drug screening will be conducted after a conditional employment offer has been extended. 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in environmental sciences, computer science, or related fields.

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in relevant field

  • Computer coding proficiency

  • UAV piloting experience

  • FAA part 107 certification

  • Familiarity with coral reef environments and fieldwork operations

  • Ability to work outdoors and either in kayaks or snorkeling
