ISG Investment Engineer Lead, Insurance Solutions Group

Apollo Insurance Solutions Group (ISG) delivers tailored portfolio and asset management services to retirement services and insurance clients.

The Investment Engineering team is responsible for developing portfolio management and trading capabilities that support Apollo’s complex and unique trading strategies. The team is closely embedded with portfolio managers and traders, the team partners cross-functionally to design and implement critical infrastructure that drives success.

We are seeking an Investment Engineering professional to lead our trading technology team within ISG Engineering. This person will help lead the organization, collaborate with senior stakeholders, and create alpha for our business.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead software build through requirements gathering, design, development, testing, and production deployment.

• Develop and deliver full-stack cloud-based applications.

• Develop and deploy microservices in a scalable high throughput workflow.

• Integrate and optimize messaging systems across application stack (e.g., Kafka).

• Leverage both a scripting (e.g., Python) and OOP (e.g., C++, Java) programming language to build robust trading solutions.

• Comfortable working in an agile software delivery environment, utilizing Git and with exposure to CI / CD tools (e.g., Docker, Jenkins)

• Passion for clean, maintainable code and continuous improvement in engineering skills in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.

• Strong understanding of market structure, key trading data, and analytics that support various investment strategies.

Qualifications & Experience

• 10+ years of experience, with at least 5+ years working in a trading environment.

• Proven experience managing and mentoring teams of full stack software engineers.

• Ability to influence senior stakeholders, drive roadmap creation and ROI optimization, and lead architectural decisions and organizations changes.

• Extensive experience building and deploying trading software in a high-performance, production environment.

• Expertise in trading systems across asset classes.

• Strong knowledge of transaction cost analysis, PnL attribution, risk factor modeling, and order routing (strongly preferred).

• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, balancing multiple tasks simultaneously. 

• Entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of initiative and drive.

• Collaborate and adept working with professionals of all levels.
