Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director of University Health Services, the Associate Director of the University Health Center assists in the provision of on-site patient care for students, and in the management and coordination of all campus services provided by the
Health Center.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists the Director in the direct supervision and management of Health Center staff and services to the campus community.
Provides direct, comprehensive primary and women’s health care services to students including physical/psychosocial assessment, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of illness or injury including prescribing medications and diagnostic testing. Determines presence of social risk behaviors when obtaining health history, respond with appropriate education, screening, interventions, and/or referrals.
Interprets laboratory results and initiates appropriate health care responses. Provides follow-up care and communication as needed. Refers students for off-campus health care providers as needed.
Serves as liaison for outside providers for coordination of healthcare needs. Consults with collaborating physicians as needed for health care interventions beyond the scope of practice of the advanced practice nurse.
Documents all clinical care and communication in medical record using standardized, comprehensive charting formats.
Serves on university-wide committees to represent the voice, needs and concerns of student health and medical needs; and to foster collaboration between departments and other teams/departments across campus for student success and retention.
Initiates, directs and reviews Health Center administrative and clinical policies and procedures in collaboration with the Director to maintain a high standard of clinical care and in preparation for future accreditation of the Health Center.
Conducts ongoing assessments to continuously improve patient care and services and ensure satisfactory student health outcomes.
Monitors and evaluates chart review as required by current collaborative agreements.
Provides supervision and management of clinical staff in collaboration with the Director. Recruits, hires, trains, schedules/assigns, evaluates and recommends reappointments. Ensures compliance with continuing education requirements, and identifies professional development opportunities for staff.
Provides on-going evaluation of services with the goal of improvement and expansion of services.
Assists the Director in current and long-term fiscal planning, and management of the day to day financial operations of the department including budget, processing of expenditures, insurance and student account billing and receipts for services.
Functions as "second" to the Director as part of the MSU Emergency Operations Plan and internal response protocols. Assumes all duties of the Director in his/her absence, including attending administrative meetings and Emergency Operations Management Group.
Acts as a resource person and advocate for health issues for the campus community.
Conducts informational and formal/informal health promotion/wellness programs and outreach for campus community.
Maintains strict confidentiality of medical records.
Recognizes and demonstrates respect for multicultural influences on health care decisions and individualizes plans of care accordingly.
