Position Overview

The University of Washington Tacoma (UWT) invites applications for a non-tenure track full-time temporary lecturer of Psychology in the Division of Social, Behavioral and Human Sciences (SBHS) within the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (SIAS). The length of the appointment is 9 months (September 16, 2024 - June 15, 2025) to teach 7 sections of cognitive psychology and research methods courses and engage in student and curriculum-centered service at the Division level throughout the academic year. During this time, the successful candidate is expected to teach exclusively at UW Tacoma.

Course assignments may include TPSYCH 250 Cognitive Psychology, TPSYCH 350 Human Memory, TPSYCH 351 Psychology of Perception, TPSYCH 209 Fundamentals of Psychological Research I, and TPSYCH 309 Fundamentals of Psychological Research II. Specific assignments will depend on the candidate’s areas of expertise and enrollment.

The successful candidate will be expected to perform highly effective and inclusive teaching, using a variety of pedagogical techniques and technologies, in an urban-serving campus environment. Faculty at UWT are expected to teach in multiple modalities, including in-person, online, and hybrid courses. The successful candidate will also be expected to successfully mentor undergraduate students in an academic setting, and will need to demonstrate facility in mentoring students with diverse experiences and backgrounds.

Our campus has expanded significantly in the last two decades and the Psychology major is one of the largest majors at UWT. Our division includes psychologists and social scientists across areas of Social, Developmental, Community, Cognitive, Clinical, Counseling, and Health psychology. Our division values equitable scheduling and all faculty contribute to teaching foundational psychology courses. We are building a growing community of scholars to collectively support our psychology curriculum and add programs of research that are transformative and future-oriented.
