We’re currently looking for a Energy and Power Devices Intern to join our Technology Planning and Research team.  The position will be at based at our Farmington Hills location and will be a full-time role in April 2024.

Nissan is working on energy devices such as next-generation lithium-ion batteries and next-generation wide band gap semiconductors for its electric vehicles and related power electronics. In this role, the intern will conduct semiconductor investigation on wafers and devices. The intern researcher has the opportunity to be involved outside the Nissan organization through external collaborations with the Academia, National Lab, and Companies.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Investigate the status of next gen wide band gap semiconductors in the US via research articles, collaborations etc.
  • Support on existing project and contribute to the development of new projects in semiconductor devices with focus on wide band gap materials
  • Benchmark next gen wide band gap semiconductor wafers via spectroscopic evaluation and determine the technical issues for device application.  
  • In-house and joint research collaborations

In order to qualify for this role, you must:

  • Enrolled in advanced degree (Masters, PhD preferred) in Science or Engineering with focus on semiconductor research.  
  • Demonstrates complete understanding and wide application of scientific technical procedures, principles, theories and concepts in the field of semiconductor materials and devices.  
  • Hands on experience with semiconductor characterization techniques such as advanced spectroscopy to identify and assess different crystal defects and relation to performance.
  • Creative in test strategies to assess the device performance
  • Knowledge in wide band gap semiconductor applications such as power electronics, light emitting diodes, RF transistors, photodetectors
  • Hands on experience on macro and atomic software simulation and data analysis tools such as COMSOL, MATLAB, ANSYS, DFT etc.
  • Deep analysis and good communication skills in reporting
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organization and time management skills
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
