Jefferson County is seeking a strong balance of executive and operational leadership with hands-on experience in road construction and infrastructure development to serve as the next Road & Bridge Division Director. This is a unique opportunity to guide Jeffco’s existing road and bridge programs, including its Business Culture Plan, preventative maintenance efforts for infrastructure (such as asphalt, concrete, and culverts etc.), and use infrastructure condition assessments and other tools to inform capital improvement planning.
The Jefferson County Road and Bridge Division is committed to delivering a safe, accessible, and efficient transportation system for residents of unincorporated Jefferson County. The Division maintains more than 2,945 lane miles of paved roads and 647 lane miles of gravel roadways, ensuring essential infrastructure is preserved, improved, and responsibly managed.
The Road and Bridge Division Director is responsible for directing all programs of the Road and Bridge Division of the Development and Transportation Department within Jefferson County. We seek a visionary, collaborative and emotionally intelligent leader who will continue advancing positive business culture, operational excellence, fiscal stewardship, environmental responsibility, and public safety while guiding the Division into its next chapter of service and innovation.
TOTAL COMPENSATION PACKAGE:
Total Base Pay Range: $125,000.00 – $190,000.00 USD Annual
Compensation will be determined based on education, experience, and skills.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Road & Bridge Director will perform the following duties:
- Provide clear, steady leadership for the division, guiding long-range strategy, responsible budgeting, and thoughtful workforce planning.
- Oversee the planning, acquisition, design, construction, and maintenance of the county’s road and bridge infrastructure, ensuring alignment with county priorities, regulatory requirements, and professional standards.
- Develop and refine operating policies and procedures; research, interpret, and recommend policy solutions that support effective and efficient service delivery.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the Director of Development and Transportation and associated division directors, County Manager, Board of County Commissioners, and advisory bodies; present complex issues with clarity, offer sound recommendations, and carry out our strategic business plan.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with county employees, community organizations, special interest groups, and advisory committees to understand needs, address concerns, and guide infrastructure and program development.
- Partner with county divisions, departments, regional entities, municipalities, and state and federal agencies to advance coordinated transportation and infrastructure initiatives.
- Represent Jefferson County in local, regional, state, and national forums, strengthening partnerships and promoting best practices in public works leadership.
- Set the tone and vision for the division by fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, inclusion, and continuous improvement, while supporting staff through empathy, mentorship, performance management, and professional growth opportunities.
- Reinforce leadership competencies such as integrity, transparency, and approachability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, Engineering or closely related field;
- Seven (7) years of experience in road construction or public works;
- And a minimum of five (5) years of supervision experience.
